Default Which boat and batteries for a beginner?

Hey guys..
Im considering to buy a boat..
I have never been "driving" a boat before, but it looks really cool..
I have been looking at the Aquacraft SuperVee 27 brushless.. It looks really cool. But i just wanted to hear if i could get a better one for same money..
The boat dont has to be rtr.. I can buy radio-gear by my self..
And about the batteries.. Would these be ok? - i think the price is really good.. or what? I just put on Deans.

Im just planning to sail in our local lake. But it is also OK big..

- Sorry for my bad english /:

The SV27 is a good beginners boat, but I'm not speaking out of knowledge. I think IB 4200's are better batteries, but are more expensive http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXLZK6&P=ML

Ya those batteries arent very good. I would recommend at least ib3600's.[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMND3&P=ML]These would work as well[/link] Or if you have a charge that can charge lipos try [link=http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6503]this[/link] You would only need one of them

Ok., I'll drop the Peak batteries..
Those Lipo's look really really cheap.. for example Maxamps would cost over 200 bucks, to get some with same specs.. Why are those "zippy" so cheap?
- Im just worried to buy some that s***s.. I got a Multiplex 5014 Multicharger, so i CAN charge lipo batteries.. But i just dont got any balancer..
Have you tried the lipo's you linked to?

- I have also been looking on the Duratrax batts. But in 4200 mah model.. These looks really cool.. I would prefer to buy them instead of the lipo, so i dont have to order from 2 different places..
But ok, if the Lipo's really own the nimh's i guess i has to buy those..
Sorry for all my questions, i just want to start at a good point..

Or is it possible to make a boat by my self?
I think it would be fun to make a project like that?
- Btw.. that page with the lipo you linked for, i have never seen so cheap items b4.. NICE!
Then i could buy all electronic and stuff there..

OK, well there is decent stuff on their site and crappy stuff on that site. If you made a boat what size would you like. 18" or more like 26-30in? Catamaran or mono? Riggers and hydros are too challenging to set up for begginers. I could figure out a good setup that would run around 40-50 for $300 but i would need to know what you would like. I have plans for a 26" balsa cat. You could run that on a feigao 540 9L on 12cells/4S lipo you would need 20C not 15C tho. You could make your own hardware if you feel up to it. If not, your looking at an extra 75-100$.

I would spend the money on Lipo!!!!!!!! I'm fighting with my IB4200s now to get them back in shape for spring and I already have one dead cell. Mostly my fault but the new Airthunder Lipos are amazing!

How difficult would it be to make the hardware self? and what tools do i need?

But will the boat you are talking about be better than the SuperVee, cause if it doesnt, id rather like to buy one of those..
Why 2x battery packs in parralel? and not just a bigger one?
Do i has to make the hull myself? And would it be very hard?
I can make a lot of it in my school, where i got a lot of tools and wood to use free..
I would prefer that it would look cool too, then i want to make a trailer and put it on my monster-truck ;D - So i can stand on my room and look nice..

I use 2 packs to offset the weight, with one pack your going to need to find a way to center it in the hull.

I think, i would like a mono boat..
The airthunder batteries are a little bit too expensive, and the zippy gets really good reviews (:

Regarding Batts. We were talking about these on a different thread the other day. I'm told you can't hurt them.

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search

These are said to still be made with a GP cell that holds more than 3300 and they are near bullet proof. If you don't go Lipo.

I also heard it is better with side-by-side.. - Less power loose..
I've been looking on those cells, wouldnt they be cool? and then just back to the supervee..
[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMUF0&P=SM]Batteries[/link]

Edit: I also think it would be too difficult with lipo, cause i need balancer, right physical size, right brand and so on..

I have IB4200s and they are nasty on the water but I have also had 2 dead cells in under a year and they loose a charge QUICK when sitting. If you plan on icy water these batts. will need to be charged like every week!

How can it be that i only can get 1000g shipped at hobycity? or is it just a fail on the homepage?
Cause my basket contains over 3000g, and i dont want to get 3 packages from same place. Are there any other sites with same price and stuffs like that?

Default RE: Which boat and batteries for a beginner?

Sorry for all my posts.. And forget all what i said before. Now i'm 99% sure what i want to do:
Buy 1x [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMDJ474&P=V]SuperVee 27 Brushless[/link] at Towerhobbies.
Buy 1x [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSDB7A5&P=V]Rustler VXL[/link] at Towerhobbies. (Sorry for OT)
Buy 4x [link=http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5608]of these lipo's[/link] for the Supervee.
Buy 2x [link=http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5607]of these lipo's[/link] for the Rustler. (Again sorry for OT)
Buy 1x [link=http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6256]of this power supply [/link] for my charger. (Have'nt bought any power supply jet [X(])
And then i just need a balancer and a discharger?.. Can any of u guys tell me which i need.. It has to be possible to buy at either Towerhobbies or Hobbycity.
- Then im going to make a trailer for the boat to put on the Rustler
Any comments?

MaaRcuuS; you know there are threads on the 27 model mentioned. Now before you make a decision, please read. Now for a beginner boat, not on your life is it a beginner boat. Now it is alright for someone to say yes it is, when they have one and know all the kinks about the 27 which i consider bad info. The 27 is for the very experienced rc boater. There are alot of things that have gone wrong and a inexperienced boater would try like bending the trim tabs down and end up cracking the transom or trying to fix a water leak and know not what components to remove without bending the wrong item which could cause alot of frustration on the beginner and money toboot!! I read those threads and some of those people threw up their hands and said what did i get into, no lie! I'm not jealous cause someone has one, more power to those who do. They need big ponds and all they do is go fast in circles while smaller boats can do that and many other things a boater enjoys doing. My 2 cts.

ORIGINAL: alloutcustom

I believe that we run our SV27 in series, which would give you 2200mah worth of run time @ 14.8v. If we ran them parallel we would only be getting 7.4v @ 4400mah. Please correct me if I'm wrong so I can edit this info!

"They need big ponds and all they do is go fast in circles while smaller boats can do that and many other things a boater enjoys doing. My 2 cts."

--Yes! Circles are what the SV27 does best, other boats like the Traxxas Villian are very fun because they go anyway at a slower pace plus they don't cavitate! Theres something about a 10 foot rooster tail that drives me wild.... and my SV27 unlike Derek Zoolander can turn left, just not very well. lol.
