outrunner motor for boat?
Hello everyone
I've seen many folks use inrunner brushless motors(feigao, lehner, neu, etc). But what about outrunner motors? Are they made for a certain esc type or something?
Cuz I've seen a lot of folks asking about this motor:
https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITED...idProduct=5139
and thinking about installing it in a 1/8 scale boat. Any problem with that?

RE: outrunner motor for boat?
I run an outrunner in my renegad rigger, it works great except for 1 thing, it heats up very quickly & you only get 2 - 3 minutes runtime before you have to shut it down. Because it's an outrunner you can't run water cooling around the can, only through the engine mount which doesn't work as well.

RE: outrunner motor for boat?
Can I ask what voltage & amps. you run for what speeds?
I ask because my boating friend wants to use electric in 1 of the 6....48" Newton boats I am finishing up now. The wood boat only weighs 5 1/2 lbs. I want the 6 boats to run a maximum of 25 mph. Just enough for a good solid planing speed in the corners. .....NO RACING......Sport running among the 6 only.
Weird request for blood a guts racers to offer me help on.
No clutches. Pick up tube in the prop blast cone, for water cooling of the 5 other Homelite 25 cc engines. Engines will have electronic ignitions and SS drive shafts with SS or Delrin bearings.

How does that cooling work?
And why not around the can? Does that short circuit something?

Hey RC Bob.
I found a mate for your motor.
Also 3 1/2#........Minnkota 16# thrust motor I have left over from a PTB. I think it might do a job in a 48" hydro for a friend. A DEWALT pack needs a job.
12 volt motor on a 16 to 20 volt set up might work.
