Default SV27 receiver pack

Could I get some suggestions on receiver packs for my SV27. I read that you should use one when using 7-cells. Also, is the drive shaft of the Aquacraft Hammer 1/16"? Thanks

Any 4 cell NiMh pack will work fine. If you wish to save weight go with a smaller cell type.

Merc,

Let me help

Using two 7 cell packs you do not have to use a RX batt.

The shaft on the hammer is 3mm.. (larger then 1/16")

Thanks

But why does they write these stories like this one:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7464991/tm.htm
*****
The receiver pack powers your receiver and steering servo. The BEC function of your ESC steps the voltage from your main batteries down to 6V and uses this to power the receiver and steering servo. With input voltages too large (more than 12 cells) this functionality will not work properly which is why you need to use a receiver pack. Also you are more prone to radio glitches using the BEC.

Hope this helps.

Rule of thumb is to disable BEC with the use of more than 12C NiMh or 4s LiPo.

I have the same problem as the story finvee27 referenced. Works fine on 12 cells but on 14 cells it has a mind of its own. So if a 6v pack is all I need, who makes some good ones? Maxamps?. And is 3mm the same as 1/8" when referring to the hammer drive shaft?

You don't need a 6v pack. A 4 cell 4.8v pack will work great.

3mm is slightly smaller than 1/8"

that is a good question. In all the testing I have done (and there has been a TON) I have never needed a RX pack for the boat on 14cells. having said that.. I also have found that the addition of the extra voltage did not add anything to the "fun factor" of the boat. I run my SV on 12 cells and leave it at that.

IF you feel it is best to use a RX pack then by all means go ahead and get what you want. That works too.

Since I was quoted in this thread with my response to why BEC shouldn't be used with more than 12 cells I'll clarify. I was responding to a question someone asked about why he had been told (by someone else) he needed a receiver pack if using more than 12 cells. Of course this may vary somewhat from ESC to ESC but like Ryan said it is a general rule of thumb. I've never owned an SV27 nor have I ever used an SV27 ESC so I don't know if the BEC can handle 14 cells or not.

Grim, I'm a little confused but I think you thought I was responding to your post. I wasn't and don't have any issues with it. I did have an issue with another post where something I had typed in another thread was quoted out of context. That's what the clarification was about. Anyway ,nuff said.

Has anyone tried 16 cells on the stock ESC/motor with a rx pack?
