Motor of Choice
Hi,
I am looking for a motor which will be insanely fast and will run well on 7.2v.
I have looked at a Tamiya Super Stock Motor RZ.
The Spec For Tamiya Super Stock Motor RZ
-Number of turns = 23
-Usable Voltage = 7.2v
-Torque at best efficiency = 500g/cm (7.2v)
-RPM at best efficiency = 27,500rpm (7.2v)
Dose anyone know how well it work or advice me on a better motor which runs well on 7.2v?
Just to say the size of the boat is 21 inc(53.3cm).Its the same type of hull as the picture.(if you can't see it it is a deep v hull)
Also the motor must be brushed

RE: Motor of Choice
There are those who will say that car motors and boats are not a marriage made in heaven. Others will disagree. I am still working on it.
I have a small hybrid hydro that has a vintage Tamiya Technigold in it, and it goes well.
Back to you mission.
The pic of your hull tells me near nothing so I have a punt here.
That is a very similar size to my little mono
I have a hot kyosho 550 size motor on a 1.5:1 geardrive to a steerable outdrive running a 42x1.4 surfacing prop.
It is not insanely fast but it is stil a lot of fun. It was my first fast bost.
To run direct drive, surfacing, off a 540 you can go from 30 to 35mm prop for a start
If it will be a subdrive then go for a 25 to 30 mm for kick off.
More or better pics may help.

RE: Motor of Choice
There are many car type motors that can work well in boats. Much will depend on your boat and personal skills in setting it up.
Is your boat a surface drive or submerged drive? The fastest mono 20 - 24 inch boats using car motors and six cells almost always used a ball bearing gear box of about 1.2-1.4 to 1 gear ratio. They generally could reach about 30 to 35mph. A direct drive setup (no gearbox) can also work but becomes much more critical to get right without burning anything up. Seven to ten turn motors were generally used with the gear box. 10 to 15 turn motors were used for direct drive. Of course higher turn motors can be used for a less critical setup but you specified insane speeds. I have for instance a 21 inch Wood mono with a 19 turn car motor (spec 19 mono) . It can do 28mph on six cells and run with little heat and very little upkeep. I have won two races with this boat.
