Default Thundercat conversion help needed..

I have a Thundercat 31 that I want to convert to electric. I need some help from you guys to get this project completed.

Due to my many other projects, this conversion must be done on a budget. I'm looking at either an XL540 or the kb-45 (need to figure out what turn) with a Turnigy 100 amp HV. The prop I have on the boat now is a M445. I'm not sure of what battery set up to go with. Thinking 2 X 4S 5000.

I'm not looking for all out speed, but rather longer running times and reliability. 10 minute running times would be great. Speed somewhere in the 40s. Is this possible? Any advice you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Reliability and budget, hmmm, thats what we all seek. The KB45 motors are big, heavy, strong and powerful, but amp hungry, get hot etc. They have no cooling holes and would require a water jacket. I run a KB45 - 1700kv version on 6s in a 32 inch tunnel with the same esc you plan to use. Octura X645, cut back to 43.28mm, goes well. Even though manf says 36v, I reckon that's pushing it, BUT, they do it.
I think you get what you pay for and things can definately be done on a budget if you look after them and know the limitations. Mans got to know his limitations, lol.

PS - Welcome

Peter

Thanks for your response. I have heard that before about the KB45. I do plan on running a water jacket. Is there a different motor that would be better for this setup?

Perhaps if you use 2 4s packs as 8s LiPo, you could run a Neu 1521 1.5Y. It would be quite a challenge to achieve 10 minutes of run time.

Running a small prop such as a 38mm one may be your best bet to achieve your goals. Although I see it difficult to achieve 10minutes of runtime. This is FE's disadvantage.

My expectations for run times were way off. Good thing I found a good resource to help me with this build. I've come up with a plan that I think will work. I'm going to start off with the kb45 10xl with the TURNIGY Sentilon100A HV running 6S. Maybe next year I will upgrade the motor.

Can anyone give some feedback about the Sentilon100A. I there another ESC for around $100 that would be better?

Dose anyone know if there are any new products coming out between now and next spring that I should just wait for? This will be a winter project and will not hit the water till next April.
