But you're also running a bigger jet drive in there, right? Love the vid clip of your test in the bathtub. That rocks seeing that NDQ boat jump out of the tub like that! LOL

A jet boat like that would be worth having.

Hey, have you guys seen the Dolphin boat? I saw it on the Discovery channel. I think it is the best thing since butter
When I first saw it, I couldn't stop thinking that it would make a nice RC boat.
In case you don't know what I'm talking about, here is the Dolphin boat.

Then I found this.

It looks about as fast as a Zig Zag, I'm sure it needs some tweaks.

RE: Unofficial
yeah toysrus has one two
its called the aqua dodger from nikko
Mike writes: The unique feature of this specialty boat from Nikko is that it can dive on demand up to 12" under water for about 10 feet. That's a cool way to avoid crashes with other RC boats, bridges, and inflatable pool toys. It's 1:30 scale, has a fully functional controller with forward, reverse cruising, left/right turn, stop, and a diving function. The futuristic looking body sports a high visibility, bright neon yellow color. Ready to use right out of the box, the 9.6 volt battery pack and charger are included along with the battery for the transmitter. It comes in both 27MHz and 49MHz so get a pair for some competitive racing. This diving boat RC could be a great new summer water toy for the beach or pool. Recommended for ages 8+.

RE: Unofficial
Anyone know where I can get an aluminum coupling to replace the stock on? I drilled one end of mine out for a 3mm shaft and now I'm using a 2.3mm shaft. I put some k&s tube in as a shim but it's not as smooth as I'd like it to be.
I was looking at this one:

But there are no specs regarding it's size...

RE: Unofficial
well, since it's for a mini rio, I would guess it has a 2mm shaft holes. You could drill them out larger
Have a look at some of these.

Haven't most of you guys converted this to a flex cable by now?? or did it come that way already?

It's pretty tight for a flex cable. There's only about 1/2" between the end of the motor shaft and the prop shaft. I would think the solid coupling it comes with would be the most efficient.

RE: Unofficial
Could I get some pics of the drive line set-up from the motor all the way to the prop? I am pretty sure there is a way for a flex cable and that would be way more effecient than a solid shaft.
Is that was it has? A solid drive shaft?

RE: Unofficial
you cant run a flex cable IMO because it needs to have a "bearing" on each side of the prop to keep it centered in the housing. any play will be scraping on the sides and unnecessary force on the prop and will break it

RE: Unofficial
wheelnut, there's a pretty decent photo of the setup on page 1 of this thread. Basically though, the motor mounts straight to the jet unit, leaving minimal distance between the end of the motor shaft and the end of the prop shaft. I did see a setup where someone used a flex shaft, but they didn't mount the motor directly to the jet, they moved it forward to a custom motor mount. I'd prefer to avoid making that drastic of a mod.

RE: Unofficial
Well I just ordered a pair of these, hopefully they'll be good, my first experience with Lipos. Now I just need to get a Radio and a charger and I'll be ready to go.
Less than $25 total.

I always have reservations about lipos that have the 'burst' rate (30C) listed on the label instead of the continuous rate. Not a good policy.[sm=71_71.gif] I hope they turn out to be good ones.

They may very well suck, but for $25 i'll be the guinea pig. I'll keep you guys updated on how they're doing though, just in case they turn out to be good.
