Default dead cell in 7 cell nimh pack

Hey guys
Just started charging my two 7 cell 4500 nimh packs when I noticed that one of packs had a higher voltage reading by 1.2v.

I checked three cells that were together on the lower voltage pack with a multimeter and I got around 2.4v when it should have been 3.6v.
Sounds like a dead cell to me.

I'm planning on disconnecting one of the cells on the pack without the dead cell so that the two packs will each have 7.2v.
The cells are configured like this pack:

And I plan to disconnect the one on top of the good pack and leave it there.

But is it all right to run a pack with a dead cell in it?

AND YES I AM SWITCHING TO LIPOS SOON.

If its not connected or part of the circuit then it doesnt matter, its just extra weight, you should take it out if you can, just some glue holding it on.

It sounds like you've got it pegged. One dead cell. The dead cell should be removed and the other left with 7 good cells. If the packs are used in series then it is ok to run a 7 + 6 , but don't allow the dead cell to be used.
