Default help with hardware for a build

hey guys, i have a traxxas villain that i have been building, im thinking about finishing my build with a pair of octura strut rudder combos thus getting rid of the steerable drives. im also thinking about going to direct drive in it and switching over to 3/16ths cables instead of the 4mm shafts traxxas provided with the hull. i would also be open to other companies hardware if anyone has any suggestions. i just mentioned octura because i know they make the parts im talking about.

now for the reason i need help, i dont have a clue where to look up the specs on the octura stuff so i can figure out the right parts for my application. if anyone knows where to find there specs or knows of a better choice in hardware for the purposes i have previously mentioned please respond.

thanks everyone.

Ever consider going wtih one big single. I think if you go fast enough with the duel drives you start to cavitate at speed due to the hull running too high (surface drives). I'd switch to a single motor single drive with an offset rudder. Searching for hardware is kind of painful. Look around on ebay and post the links here of what you think might work.

id really like to stick with the twins due to the fact that i already have built the whole thing with the exception of the drives. it already has a pair of brushless systems in it, octura props, water cooling, graupner u-drives........etc

i just like the idea of the twins

I didn't mean to discourage you. Actually that may be somewhat unique, and I'll be intrested in how it runs. There are lots of single motor ones out there. Everything else you are doing sounds good so keep going. I hope you have a video camera. . The cheapest strut I know of is the one on OSE, the replacement for the SV27.

this is a 4mm setup that comes with a rudder won't work with your 3/16 (0.187) or 4.76mm. You may be able to contact the seller and get two struts and a rudder if you can make 4mm work. I feel your pain.

do you think 2 of the sv27 drives would fit on it? id like to convert it over to direct drive anyway so i thought i could buy all the parts for the sv27 drive lines and a single sv27 rudder set up. what do you think? and also for direct drive will 3500kv be too much?

Running on 2S or 6 cells each. Sounds pretty reasonable to me (26K unloaded). That's an awesome plan!

ebay has the struts:

funny - I also found a 35inch SV27 hull. except its not SV and it's not 27.

i work at a hobby shop part time so i can get all the hardware except the motor mounts for about 110$ gotta love not paying retail haha

if you have an sv27 could you post a few pics of the transom taken apart if you have them? actually as many pics of the drive line as possible, i'd like to get some ideas of what it actually looks like before i buy the stuff

about the two drives cavitating part idk how much speed reduction youd get but you could get graupner z drives, they wont flex like the traxxas, [link]http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=grp-1985[/link] , [link]http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=grp-1987[/link]

the first one might not hold up thats why i mentined the 820

uhh..........those 820's are 220$ each, im not trying to spend 440 on a pair of drives. all of the sv stuff will only cost me a fuzz over 100. id rather wait to see if anyone will hook me up with some pics so i can decide on that route

yeah sorry i forgot to mention if you wernt on a budget. yeah you can put the sv struts with a rudder in the middle, i dont have any twin setups so i dont have any pics unless you want pics of the sv27.

yeah thats what im looking for, do you have any pics of the drive line both together and apart? or whatever you have honestly. also could you post a few pics of the drive strut with a ruler next to it so i can see measurements? i have to make sure i have enough room on the back of the villain.
