Well guys Iam looking into getting an rc boat in about a month or two. Everyone seems to be hyped up about the Traxxas Titan on 6S...
I am looking to spend around $400 max and RTR only. I already have plenty of NiMh and Lipos laying around but none matching Lipos. I have only boated a couple of times on some old 9.6V toy boat with my uncle when I was a kid.
I've been building crawlers, scale trucks, drifters, short course trucks, and made the switch to electric already. My only nitro/gas is my Ofna 8.5 and my Baja 5B SS. Never really liked flying although I have a trainer plane.
The price on the Traxxas Titan is not so far off from the Pro Boat Widow Maker Brushless which I am comparing. I am looking for deep V's and I have huge lakes around where I live.
I figure the Titan is not a bad choice for a starter as I can progressively work my way up to 6S. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Btw I am not in any boating clubs or plan on racing just having fun when I'm not crawling or bashing!

Well since you mentioned the Widow Maker there is also the Brushless Shockwave, which I have and love. The only real difference between the two is the hardware and what the hull is composed of. The Widow has a rudder and is fiber glass, where as the Shockwave has a steerable drive set-up, hull is abs, and its slightly larger.
The Shockwave and Widow come ready to run on 2s, which is good for around 30mph, however, I am upgrading my esc to run 3s so hopefully with the right prop the boat wont be to far away from the titan in terms of speed.
If your not going to want to mess around with any upgrade modifications then I would go with the titan, throw a 6s in her, and watch it fly.

Ive seen a few vids of stock widow makers chine walking real bad in calm waters.
Are you only considering boats from the US or have you looked into the hong kong stuff?
Heck most of the HK stuff comes less radio w/servo's installed. Its very easy to plug a radio system in
I wanted an ARTR setup when I started- ended up with a 25" DF knock off. A very GOOD investment!

Basstronics, no I am not only interested in domestic stuff...most of the electronics in Traxxas are made in Taiwan anyway lol. Knock offs are a great way to test if I really enjoy the next type of rc to get into. I'll check into some...do you know of any sites or brands to look for?
I have this little 1:24 scale replica rc made by Audley of my 1/10 scale 2006 Tamiya Monte Carlo Subaru World Rally Car and every detail from it is apparent in the Tamiya version from the licensed stickers, antennas, mirror style, wing style, driver names, and license plates.
Funny how Audley's logo are two diamonds instead of two stars on the same red and blue back ground. I just keep the replica as a fun toy to drive in the house. Has no proportional steering and no way of upgrading anything haha. Looks cool though!
