RE: Custom rc boat STUCK!
Catflyer,
Creepy, As I read more about your BMW friend, (yes into cars as well) found a link to the kids forum posts, and another story with the kids pics. Seeing BigBoats picture in the beginning of this thread, I see one of the kids killed, Dustin looks just like him. Very weird that you came to this post, and posted that particular life story. Put the pics next to each other, the smile, the hair, maybe more than just a lesson in boat building?

RE: Custom rc boat STUCK!
Wow indeed very eerie when you put both pictures side by side.
I have also PM’d Dustin and posted that he should slow down and let the information soak in a bit first. With that said I have kids (Dustin the term is not meant as any disrespect) and I know how excited they get when they set their mind on something. Also, I think we all knowthat post don’t always convey the proper feeling. What sounds as bragging or bashing to a reader is not always the intent.
I for one will do my best to encourage and answer his question as time allows and I am sure the rest of you will as well.As mentioned by someone else in this threadwe need more youngpeople involved to grow the hobby. I think if we all continue to guide him along the right path we will have another person oining our ranksto keep the hobby alive.

RE: Custom rc boat STUCK!
I'd hope bigboat would keep his post up
when I first read this post, I hoped to help out.
But I race three point hydros, any mechanic would know they are not planing hulls.
It would seem he's getting sound advice, and I hope your boat gets wet before school starts.
Deadlines can be bothersome

You guys gotta check this out, the pipe with the expansion chamber is my new design, tell me your thoughts. As for the Aluminum with the squares traced into it will be my new trim tabs here soon. the other pipe is my old one, you can see where I cut it and the water cooling.

Bigboats
have you used copper before for exhaust systems?
You may find copper has a property called work hardening,
it gets brittle over time.

RE: Custom rc boat STUCK!
Think my vote would be for "red handed" for the boat name - after seeing the bandaid on your finger it might be quite appropriate
My only question with the pipe setup would be regarding the diameter of the pipe where at the final chamber - not sure if it would be too much resistance - having to option to remove it pond-side to see if theres and loss/gain with or with out would resolve that though. Also being able to seal the pipe at the motor/muffler might save you some clean up of any unburnt oil that might make a mess of your engine bay.

RE: Custom rc boat STUCK!
ahaha funny, That will be the boat name! (: I actually ended up cutting 1/8" into my thumb cutting gas line for a customers motor.
As for the pipe it will be sealed like I said inna previous post I will be using a High temp rubber exhaust joint
YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS!!!! Check out my weed wacker I just bought from Home depot!!! AWESOME
Homelite, 26cc, 12,000 RPM Max HORRIBLE top end, with be improving that will tuned pipe and throttle response!
BTW: Also bought me a new pressure washer
Next vote, Color of Boat:
Black
Blue
Omaha Orange
2 tone, black and white or blue and white
White=Bottom and transom other color = the rest of boat

RE: Custom rc boat STUCK!
For boat color most go with lighter brighter colors as it makes it easier to see - especially when racing or running with other boats - if it stops on the water a dark color boat can be very hard to see. I would vote for orange or a two tone (orange/black or possibly orange/blue).
That is quite a notch you made in your thumb - I donated my share of blood with my first few boats.
One thing I didnt mention earlier is that the vinyl tubing you have might not handle the temps of the copper fitting at the exhaust too well. Silicon tubing is first choice for cooling lines in RC as it resists some extreme temps.
Be interested to see what you come up with with that Homelite.

RE: Custom rc boat STUCK!
yes I agree but the manifold will be re-designed for the port as to I have alot of work to do at the machine shop. But it might be better thaan my straight pipe design right ?

RE: Custom rc boat STUCK!
For the money and time you will spend I would wait until you get your hands on a zenoah. I have never tried to get more out of a Homie since they do not have a whole lot in them. Mod them too much or rev them too hard and BANG - your back to where you started.
There are guys who can squeeze more performance out of them but they are such a gamble. There are too many other options on the market for the homelite to really be taken seriously any longer. They have some torque but dont appreciate being revved.
Certainly interested in what others might have to say but if it were me I would just keep the homelite as a budget machine and have fun with her for what she is. Spending money and time hunting for speed and power is a little wasted when a stock zenoah will liven a boat up more than every mod available for a homie. No matter what you do a homelite is a heavier, slower revving motor.

Not sure if you have poked around youtube but there are a few videos of stock homies with canister mufflers running respectable speeds - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BBBSyz2Isc I dare say your on target!!
