Default Hobbico's NEW gas boat 54" 24cc w/tuned pipe

This is just out on Tower's site. Hopefully not posted here before.

Read the tech notes. FM radio, 24cc Fuji engine, water cooled head AND water cooled manifold AND water cooled tuned pipe. Comes with trim tabs. Has a transmitter adjustable surface drive!!!!! With 3rd channel servo, but not included. But who cares I have tons of 3ch radios........

Awesome looking hull, 54" long, unique design. Maybe doesn't do as much as the notes say, but still unique.

$799.99 out the door. You gotta be kidding me!!!! I was gonna buy a Super G and leave it stock but this is much more fun for the bucks!!!!!!

This is copied from TOWER HOBBIES website, it is their content, not mine(legal stuff).

Default RE: Hobbico's NEW gas boat 54" 24cc w/tuned pipe

the hull is whats called a "bat boat" they display a quite wild ride but manage to stay up right... they made a good choice there. the fuji engine was looked at by some very knowledgeable engine guys, dyno included and there isnt much there to work with as far as port work goes. there isnt enuff metal in the right places to get the numbers for a high performance engine. Fuji engines are very dependable so as long as your expectations arent too high you will have a blast.... now if they have raised the bar a notch over the "pro boat" with all its cheezy hardware they might have a winner...

I don't think it was meant for guys that want to bore the engines out and go hog wild.

And as far as beating the Shockwave goes....... cooler looking hull, bigger engine and tuned pipe with triple water cooling for a hundred bucks less. SOLD

It looks like a huge version of the electric Kyosho Blade Runner.

I hope this thing has a clutch though. Main reason I didn't buy the Shockwave was no clutch. Didn't feel like ramming shore everytime I wanted the boat to stop. I heard the boats keep moving fast even at idle with no clutch. Is that true?

5-7mph is pretty quick.

Faster than most can swim. I'll have to wait and see if this thing has a clutch.

I'm guessing repeated beaches while running at 5-7mph does some damage to the hull? In WI it's usually too cold to stand in the water while running the boat.

Hmm seems that the drive hardware looks like decent stuff, and it looks like they paid some attention compared to Proboat. I see that they decided to water cool the header and pipe which is good and they even use a rubber isolator mount on the exhaust to keep ot from cracking. I am not real sure if I like the header setup but if it is a lot chaeper than the Proboat it looks like a better option to me. Still it will never compare to the gas boats that can be built it will be ok for a RTR hull.

Hpiguy..the only time my hulls get beached is when I fall asleep at the wheel. Better get yourself some boots and get in the water instead of beaching it......if you want the hull to last.

During the Summer it's warm in some lakes, but the big rivers stay around 50 degrees all year. In Spring and Fall even in waders your feet, legs will go numb.

I was hoping it had a clutch so I could stop it by shore and reach in to grab it. Not have to snatch it out of the water like a clutchless version.

We'll see, I'll find a way.

You can shut the motor down using the radio so you shouldn't be ramming into the shore.

I didn't know that.

I'm used to my large scale land R/Cs and the gas engines can't be shut down from the transmitter. They can be given full brake, but boats don't have brakes.

How do they manage being able to shut down via Tx?

On your gas powered car, thye are made to stay running because when you go back on the throttle you go into the braking mode so they have to stay running for when you get back on the gas. With boats, when you go there, it'll shut the motor down. It's a requirement from the sanctioning bodies that you must be able to shut the motor down using the transmitter and this will apply whether or not that you will ever race the boat.
I do know what you're talking about, I used to race nitro trucks.

Have no idea what the top speed is, the video shows it driving but the pond is so tiny I don't think they can open it up.

I'll read the reviews (I'm sure R/C Driver, R/C Universe and RC Boat Modeler will review it) and see what they say.

My best guess is mid to high 30s for speed.
Comparing it to the Manta Ray which has more power and is about the same size. Manta Ray RTR runs just about 40 as reviewd by RCBM.

UPDATE:

Price has been lowered to $749.99 and to $739.99 for Super Saver Members!

I called and they said that their assembly factory was able to increase production and reduce costs so the price was lowered even more.

Wait for a sale where any purchase over $500 gets $50 off and I (SS member w/free shipping) could get this boat for $689 at my door.

YES! Consider my order already in.

edit: corrected my math

Easiest way is to back out the idle screw and set idle with the TX. Then when you go to the reverse side of the throttle, the throttle bore closes off and the engine dies.

Has anyone run one of these boats? I am looking at getting one, but can't find any feed back about them. It is hard to go by what the vender says about their products. Also where would the cheapest place be to get one?

The boat isn't being sold yet, so it's been hard to drive one for testing. hehe

I'm sure all the mags will review it the second it comes out.

So far the lowest prices I've seen have been if you buy from Tower Hobbies and use their discount coupons. You can get it for as low as $689 shipped if you play the discounts correctly.

I'd still like a solid answer on how much it weighs.
Tower says 18 lbs with out engine and radio?
by time you add the radio, gas, pipe etc. it could go over the weigth limit of most organozation.

Where did you get that Tower says 18lbs?

If you look at the product on their site it says 15.6lbs total.

At first it said 15.6lbs (hull only), but they corrected it to say total weight. The manufacturer site says 15.6lbs for the hull only but I wrote them an email and they said it is a typo and that the WHOLE BOAT(radio box, pipe, everything installed) weighs 15.6lbs without gas.

If you called Tower I bet they were saying 18lbs for the WHOLE CRATE. Box, packing, radio, and all the manuals etc.

Thanks. The guy at the LHS made it sound like he could get it in a couple of days. He does that so he gets the sale and then just keep giving me a different reasons why he does not get the item in.

That sounds like a very shifty used car salesman. I'd be careful about giving that guy my money.
