RE: New hull
that was probably a .67 motor in there.this would be a chalange to go gas as the size of the boat might be a bit to small.i would go to warehouse hobbies site.they have a builders specal for this type of project.$299 that comes with everything need to do a conversion.great deal plus like 20-25 to ship here to the balto area

RE: New hull
Thanks for all of your help.Funny thing is this I am an airplane guy so I don't know squat about boats other than it looked like it was worth 10.50 on ebay and with your help with the gas conversion this should be kind of cool low budget boat. I don't care if it go's 10 MPH it will still be fun. I saw the thread on people buying 60 mph plus boats and how crazy they are for believing that crap. I can't thankyou enough for your help I will keep ya posted . This should be a screem....LMAO

RE: New hull
Looks like the rails are 5" to me. You'll just need to lose the nitro mounts. If the nitro mounts are glassed in, you can use a heat gun and get them out. You just have to be careful that you don't delaminate the hull layup.
If the stringers aren't 5 in, they can be removed and redone. I have taken out and moved stringers before[:@], it's a pain in the neck but doeable.

RE: New hull
stock 260 would go in there fine. top secret stinger, offset a single rudder, single trim tabs, turn fin. should be a good running boat.

Let me start by asking where I might find some instruction as to motor angle and setup of propshaft and rudder. I was loking at the different lenths of rudder shafts and strut sizes every other question that may arise. Thanks

RE: New hull
with that boat, if you use a stinger drive which is a surface drive the shaft wil come out the very botom of the hull. right at the point in the bottom of the boat. just make sure the shaft comes out of the motor straight and makes a gradual turn to straighten back out coming through the transom straight. there really isnt any set engine angle .

RE: New hull
With your motor you do want a 30-33% center of gravity. Witch on your boat being 40 inches should be about 13.5 inches from the transom to center of spark plug. Then put on your hardware and mount the motor. And you can redo the stringers to fit the motor in. Just be sure to glass them in. You can use wood like poplar soft enough to work with but solid enough to hold a motor.

RE: New hull
Hey! Good luck on the build! It looks to me like a Dumas 41 Scarab. Nick "sickmodelpowerboats" is rebuilding the same boat now. The first one he lost to a radio glitch and a very hard dock. He has a thread going here in the "Gas" section.
I am converting a Dumas 55" Scarab 38KV from nitro to gas now. Fun, but double the work tearing into the old nitro stuff, refabricating, then rebuilding to gas. Patience!
Anyways, as you build, install all your parts radio box, strut, rudder, trim tabs, fuel tank ( half full with water) then balance the boat at desired CG place (30-33%) as noted before and rest the motor and exhaust pipe until it balances at intended measurement. Whallah!!!! You have the correct CG and motor placement.
This is the process I have been told many, many times over. I hope it helps!
Have fun picking the hardware and getting it built! Welcome to gas rc boats!!!

RE: New hull
Well I just received the boat today and man is this thing battered but for $10.50 I guess I can't complain. I noticed that the hull has two openings where maybe at some point two different shafts were used. Since there is 5 inches between the rails I am hoping gas will be the way to go instead of nitro. I guess since Warehouse hobbies have a deal where you can get the engine an hardware and fuel tank all at one price for $299.00 this might be the way to go. I think just starting out I don't want to put a bunch of money in a hull like this as I have been looking at some other hulls that are just crazy and I would rather put the money in somthing like that. However this year will be a learning year and I do have alot to learn. Thanks again guys and any imput at any time is great so don't be shy jump in at anytime and give me suggestions

RE: New hull
I'm sorry to say this, but I think your going to have trouble getting that large air cooled motor inside of that hull. The length is OK, (could be a bit longer) but it looks too shallow to me. Got a gas weed eater? If so take a look at it and see what it would look like if you stuffed the motor inside of that hull.
A water cooled Zenoah is going to be smaller and sit lower inside of that boat, but it is still going to be a tight fit. You may want to clean the hull up a bit and put it back on E-bay. You will be much happier with a hull that is designed for a gas engine.
Just my opinion,
Dale P.
