Default Switch to 1/4" Prop shaft W/O clutch

The stock clutch on my BJ55 is shot. Rather then buying a new clutch I think I'll switch my prop shaft over to 1/4" and do away with the clutch. I know several of you have switched your BJ55 and can help me out here. I know this has been covered somewhere on here but I can't find it.

1. Where did you get all the parts?

2. Did you get everything at the same place?

3. Can you give me a list of the parts that I will need?

4. What will this do for my performance?

1. Any of the many online Gas boat parts suppliers shoud have everything you need. Gizmo, CC Racing, Redline, GasPartsplus, American RC, Mastons any of them.
2. You can very easily.
3. Round collet for the Zenoah- 6" of 5/16" stuffing tube- one 18-24" welded stub shaft 1/4 "prop shaft- 1/4" drive dog-1/4" Zuber nut- 1/4" soldered flange or flared shaft bushing
4. It will increase performance a little maybe but depenability a bunch.

Did this on my BJ55, collet drive to replace the clutch. Warehouse hobbies custom solderless flex shaft. Just follow their instructions for measurements and you'll be fine. Be sure to ask for about a half dozen thrust washers as the prop shaft is longer then stock. You can get the collet from them as well.

See attached pictures.

You will need to drill out the stock bushings or replace them. The OD of the stock bushings is 7.95mm. Best bet is to push the old ones out and drill them in a lathe to .250".

Here is how I do them. Done a dozen this way from local hobby shop referrals. They work great like this.
Hope you can understand my poor drawing.

Ok, it is all on the way. Talked with WHH today and got everything ordered. They did talk me into a new clutch (Retro) which was not that hard since I really wanted to go that way anyways. Also ordered another prop (275 Sharpened/Balanced) since the X472 killed my motor.

I have to admit starting it floating in the water and letting it idle while putting the canopy on is something I miss.

However, I'm always wanting to push to the edge so that's why I went clutchless.

I have always believe that if I need more speed I'll need more horsepower. I'm sure that by next summer I will go clutchless but just not yet. I only care about easy to operate, dependablity, and top speed.

Not trying to change the topic but do you guys run rechargable battery's in you transmitter (Hand control)? If so, where do I get one at WHH did not have them? I have the stock gun with my BJ55 (JR).

If you have a JR there should be a charging port on the controller (at least all mine did). If thats the case with any controller just put rechargables in it and get the charger for it for maybe about $15.00 for the charger. Hope that helps you. -Ed
