RE: GAS OUTBOARD guys this is our new home
Hi Len
Firstly "A big thank you for the compliment" Secondly, but more importantly "Welcome to the F1 Gas outboard freternity"
I have no doubt that you will have many many hours of adreniline rushing fun. I have been running/racing these boats for years and still have as much of a rush running them by myself around the course as I do in a race.
I am sure that you have read the instruction manual cover to cover but to reiterate:
When setting the G- Morty motor hieght, set the hull on a flat smooth surface, extend a thin TRUE straight edge out towards the leg bottom end, with the leg trim parrelle (0 degree)l to the running surface of the hull. The ideal setting to start with would be that the bottom part of the drive shaft housing (where the top part of the skeg meets the Leg) is approximately 5mm higher than the bottom of the sponsons. Once that is set, set the leg at a 1 degree negative.
A good prop would be around the 70mm diameter, rather smaller tham bigger "Two Blade" ABC2714 or Octura X470 Prather 270.
Remember to start off slowly when setting out on the water, get to know the boats behaviour "Which changes every time you head in a different direction" always throttle down when initiating a turn, so that the hull can settle back into the water, once in the turn, put the power back on. You will eventually get the hang of it and do it pretty fast. I run with a fixed wieght od 250 grams in the very nose plus adding water into a Balast tank IV bag, should I want more wieght. The nose wieght aids in balancing the hull out for the days conditions and can also assist in bringing the nose down quicker for the turns. It is always good to run on a course if one is available or try to set out a basic one to strart with.
Also have a SAFE STARTING BOX to ensure that the prop is well guarded from any contact. We have had a few very scary incidents of injury.
Please post some pic's as soon as your done !
From our side, I am happy to report that the F1 Gas outboard interest is on the up and up, all around the world as we have started 2010 with a few busy months. We are looking forward to our National race event in Gauteng, over the Easter Weekend, for which I have built a new boat. We are also very excited to have James Beasely (The Current World Champ) racing our X-Ray outboard leg at the 2010 World Champs in Charleston, over the same weekend.
Have a great weekend and as we say !

Hi Len
At the bottom of the reply block, use the" upload images and files attachment". It will present a browser option box for ten images to be selected.Select each image to the browser box, one at a time. I genrally find that more than three images at a time dont load well, so I break it up into three's.
Looking forward to seeing your pic's.

Marc is that a airbrush job or a vinyl wrap. I'm having my new cat wrapped and have been looking at wrapping my new design F1 hull.

RE: GAS OUTBOARD guys this is our new home
Guy's
Thanks for the compliments.
Let me tell you that I did not do the paintjob by myself, that is also the work off the builder off the "Synthar" John Vianen.
The camelhead I think is a masterpiece off airbrushwork, I'm very pleased with it.
For the radibox setup I have made a custom box from 5mm multiply with an aluminium frame on top and offcorse a plexyglass window
inside the frame what I will seal with tape. (I hope you understand me)
OK, so for steering I had plans to use the double Rhino's from my (old) Ossi F1, but because the box is more smaler I now will use two
7955TG servo's. If there is any update I will let you guy's know for sure.
I have add some more pics, hope you like them.
This week I had a message from one off the ABU-DHABI pilots that there has being a colourchange for this season 2010. (see picture)

RE: GAS OUTBOARD guys this is our new home
Hi F1 Modvp
There are numerous radio box setups that work well, I have found the simple system with the servo's protruding through the radio box lid to work well 'IF" it is done right to start with. and maintained. In truth all radio boxes are very likely to leak some time or another, so it is always a good thing to protect the reciever and battery with a ballon and not to use overspect costly servo's that really are not nessesary.
I have used the simple analogue Hitec 805bb X2 1/4 scale servo's for the steering, direct connection to the motror without any leverage system to inprove the torque reqired. For the throttle, I use a simple standard JR servo. I reckon all three of these sevo's can cost what just one of the latest digital servo's cost.
For the fuel tank, the 500ml IV bag is great. It is cheap, simple to install, can fit most anywhere, collapses as the fuel reduces, which limits the fuel from washing around which would then create a air bubble and most importantlty "No Breather" so the chance of water contamination is Zero. I have tried the solid tanks, and the water contamination is a big issue.
I also run a IV bag in the very nose of the boat to add water (hence wieght) to find the optimum balance for the day depending on the wind/water conditions as well as the power and prop used. Much like the full scale boats, one needs to be able to move balance around.
Kind regards

RE: GAS OUTBOARD guys this is our new home
Hi MTR 35
That looks very nice, has anyone run one as of yet ?
I cant wait to hear how it goes. I would also like to see a few more close ups of the overall boat, from the radio box position, transom structure and the undesrside of the hull.
I have to say that I am very happy seeing all that is recently happening in the way of F1 OUTBOARD Gas developmnet. With what is now available from the various Hulls, Legs and Pips, includig what is promised to be available sometime soon by a few others, the F1 Gas O/B class is hear to stay and hopefully we can start comcentrating on some serious racing into the future.
Keep us up to speed with your build.

Marc & Dominic,
Thanks for the pictures.
I see some people run one high torque servo mounted in the gearbox frame with the additional gearing. Is therea majoradvantage (the extratorque) to running two servos tied together vs one servo with extra gearing? Or, does it just come down to personal preference and cost?
Marc - did you have that steering assembly toward the rear of the hull made special to fit over the stringer?
Thanks guys - I appreciate the help.
