Ok guys

It seems that GAS OUTBOARDS are realy starting to get off the ground now so as it has been said in other
threads we should have a place for those who are building , going to build or already have a Gas o/b going

so let this be the plase we can all share info on this top new class of gas boating this way we can all go to one
thread to find what were looking for or ask what what we want to ask

please let me know what you all think thanks guys

Now where was I in the last thread.
Eddy thanks very much for the pics. The reason I want a closer look is that those boats if I remember correctly was produced by a team of F1 lovers. They may be engineers and designers or even qualified high tech in composite or fibre glass. Maybe I can learn something in the way they have designed this hull for increase performance. As I am also geraring towards the full scale F1 boat, I am digging all infos I can gather for the project. You can see my wood build in the other thread which can easily be turn into a plug for mould making.

Hi Guys,

Nice work Ian, it certainly gets tricky sometimes jumping from thread to thread catching up on all the lastest info on these boats.

Below are some pictures of my F1 hull running inboard Zenoah, but I plan to change this particular boat to outboard later down the track
when I purchase new F1 hull from Jordo. I will make the new hull inboard and then I will have one inboard and one outboard, well thats the plan anyway.

Great to see some fantastic designs on the gas outboard legs. I personally like the more scale look of the outboards and hopefully
with the developement that seems to be happening by fellow forum users, we may see something that alot more of us can afford.

my tunnel is one of marks new ones nice boat to but to make it an outboard you need to do lots of mods to the transom and center of the deck not hard to but it takes time to get i right this build has taken so long because iv had to do it twice

i will get some details on what iv done soon as i finish the build have a look at the pics iv added and you can see what iv had to do

well just had another set back thanks to the dog next door dam mutt it got out and ran in to my shed and knocked the stand over the boat was on cracked the deck join and deck thanks god i had striped it so the motor wasnt hurt

i also need a new camera[:@] thanks to the dam dog it jumped on to my bench and knocked stuff off evey where
at least the owner is going to pay for a new camera

sometimes id love to stick a M80 firecracker up that dogs butt

Your hull look fantastic . Does she run as well as she look ?
WE are going the same way i.e. Inboard set up on the F1 design and with the motor cowl on the right scale to the hull dimension, sur e turned some heads doesn't she. The rear ex. sure help nto keep a clean look.

I have done this before and I think I'll go back to the same system. I'll put my throtle servo, receiver and battery pack in one radio box and stuff the whole thing in the cockpit, almost on the floor, while the steering servo would be in a separate watertight servo box fitted close to the transom. Insulated y harness would be used to link the steering servo to the receiver.
In this way, I wouldn't need to move rear ex tuned pipe should I want to get to the receiver or change the battery. In case of a blow over, the chances of the radio box in the cockpit ending below the water level is lessen especially with some polystyrene foam glued under the cockpit for more floatation at that part of the hull. Air bag maybe ? Just my return to the old ways to share.
Meanwhile here's a pic of one of my old design with some whistles and bells to share.

Hi Guys,
I've been reading all these posts with great interest during the last week or two (on the previous separate threads as well), as I have also been busy with my gas outboard build which I completed this afternoon ! I race in Cape Town with my very good friend Dominic and I'm leading this year's championships in the 3.5cc nitro tunnel championships. Next Saturday my gas OB will have to hit the water running, as I will not have an opportunity to test the boat before our next race day which is Saturday. At least the engine has run before in my gas cat.

I've attached a few photos of my new big F1 ( and one photo that also shows my two 3.5cc OB tunnels as well).
I'll let you know how things went after next weekend's racing.

Guys your boats look awesome. Got a couple questions:
Wennie, is that a QuickDraw pipe?
And, What are some of the better props to start with?
Got a box load of props,But there for my Monos,Hydros,Thunderboats.
Building an Illusion Tunnel. Wood hull w/carbon Fiber cowl wrap,Viper Racing RCMK Motor.
Guess a got a thing for WOOD!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Hi there Nathan,
Yes my pipe is the OB pipe from QuickDraw. My only challenge was to make-up a flexible mounting for the pipe itself. I achieved this with a little aluminum plate bolted to the side of the Lawless leg, to which I added two rubber anti-vibration mounts. I then bolted two 1mm thick X 12mm wide stainless steel strips to each rubber mount, and then carefully joined the SS strips to the pipe in four places with a TIG spot-weld while everything was mounted to the engine. I then removed the pipe and added some hard silver-solder with a Butane torch to the four contact points. I now have a pipe which is well supported but still flexible. You can see some of this detail on the photos.

I must admit to not being experienced at all about props for gas boats. I will start off by using a beautiful 6717 three-blader that I got from Bob Austin at the Prop-Works, which he originally supplied for my gas cat. I'm hoping it will also work well on the gas OB tunnel. Time will tell !

I love the look of a wood model. I haven't build any in wood yet, but I enjoy making my own 'custom' radio boxes in thin marine plywood.
I saw some great pictures of an Illusion running in one of the earlier posts/threads here. I think it belonged to the moderator of this forum.

HI Ian, Good to have all this stuff in one place (well done) I have one of Jordo's hulls with a lawless leg on it and have given it one run, had a few carby problems to sort
but got it close, I found it lite in the nose it wanted to stand on the prop every time I hit the gas while that was fun it made it touchy to drive.
I have since moved things around and put a balast bag in the nose and got the CG to 36% but havn't had another run since.

Steering servos are twin Hitec HS 5745 MG's they seem to have plenty of grunt, I've had to slow them down a lot.

cool im useing a servocity 5:1 set up iv slowed it down as far as i can i on my 3pk and its still fast
but talk about grunt this thing is nuts what props are you useing

Congrats on your build, I thought that Hooter would be the first on the water with one of Marks Hulls, but you pipped him.

Thank you for purchasing a YPC2009 pipe. I was most impressed yesterday whilst having my first opportunity of running a stock Zenoah with a YPC2009 up against a CC motor married to a custom made Quick draw pipe, of Capetown73 and have to report that you could not tell us apart on the water.
Cape Town 73, a very good friend of mine, took 1st for the day, his first run and race with the boat and I settled for the 2nd, it was a great day.

I have attached a picture to advise you to fit a simple bracket to your pipe as the overall vibration and resonance is proving to much for the single mount bracket.
Please fit it ASAP

I have seen in the past that the longer the hull, the more necessary it is to get good weight in the nose due to the simple mathematics of the total lift leverage generated in canopy.
try and get as much as you can in the nose, as in the radio box/battery and then pull a 1000ml IV bag into the nose and start of with at least 500ml of water in it.
Weight is not as big a factor with the Gas motors as it is with Nitro and therefore a well balanced heavy boat will far outperform a light unbalanced boat.
