Default headers

Which header type gives the best performance? WTC, V shape, 90 degree, 105 degree? Also which pipe material is better stainless steel, aluminum? I just purchased and replaced the original header that came with the boat tonight. The header cracked the other day when I was at the pond. It split on the top and bottom. I replaced it with the same style header which is a V shape or wrap forward header from Bonzi Sports. (Very fast delivery) I wasn't to sure which header to go with so I stuck with the same style for now. I wanted to get a 90 degree header but was not sure how it would fit. I've posted a picture of my engine setup does anybody know if the 90 degree header would work and if so would there be better performance with a 90 degree header? Thanks

WTC and wrap forward headers tend to be too long to tune the pipe correctly. You usually can't get the pipe short enough for best performance. A 90, 100 or 105 will usually perform better. Stainless steel headers are stronger than aluminum and won't crack as easily. ALso, if you use viton o-rings on your pipe and they get too hot, they swell and can put dents in an aluminum header. On your boat you should push your pipe in on the wrap forward header as far as you can without getting it onto the bend for best performance. Doug

You can probably fit a 3" offset 90 degree stainless header in it's place without a lot of work. The wrap forwards are a bit long for proper tuning.

Looking at your pics you can move that pipe in a good 2" so id try that first ,as its not a race boat im sure you will see a reasonable improvement by doing just that.Id then add something to the end of your pipe to get it out of the boat as it looks like it will be then a little short.Heres a pic of how i did it on my hydro.Basicly its a silicone exhaust joiner from a nitro boat clamped to the muffler then to some ali tube same size diam as the header pipe.So long as you go larger than the stinger on the pipe it wont hurt performance.Obviously using a 90% header would be better if you have the room to fit one but you might not as the pipe might be stuck out a long way which would spoil the scale look of the boat ?.

I'll try moving the pipe forward on the header. Does anybody have an idea of what brand or kind of pipe I have? I bought the boat used so I'm not sure what pipe is on there. It looks like if I was to get a 90 degree pipe I would have to get a different tuned pipe to fit inside the hull. I really don't won't the whole pipe to stick out. Any thoughts?

how do I keep the tuned pipe from moving?
There are clamps that keep it from moving forward, and simply attach a hose clamp at the stinger end just inside of the transom to keep it secure.

OK, it's a really bad shot but it will give you an idea.
The clamp holds the pipe from moving closer and a small bracket goes around one of the water fittings on the pipe

Where did you get the clamp? I moved the pipe forward today and went to the pond I actually picked up 2 mph and I can hear and see a difference. My gps proved there was a difference the only thing is it didn't seem to last long probably because the pipe moved back.

That's a Warehouse Hobbies part that I got from a friend. A lot of gas engine dealers sell them.
