you don't see it used much here in the USA, it's more of a European thing so I really don't know that much about them but I'll take a shot at it.
I've heard of a few ways that it's done but they are made to help a boat self-right after flipping. Some are disguised as canopies. This question is better answered by someone across the "pond". Let me know if I'm close or a mile off.

i have notcied that real life unlimited hydros have atleast the old shovel nose ones have to on the sides if im not mistaken

Bob, did you say MARTY'S web site? You can now post links to sites that don't require a membership to view what's on them. For instance you can't post a link to that giant gas offshore boat site, you know the one that I mean. I dumped their link a long time ago.
