They Make thick silicone tube for the conection. Hobbie shops sell various sizes and then just a couple of zip ties or hose clamps. There wasnt any way to slide the rubber dampeners over the bolts?

not sure about the engine mounts! it's in for now! if it try's to go M.I.A then i might have to rethink it. lol
i think the brain was foggy when mount design came up-not my best work[sm=red_smile.gif]
gives room to improve for the next one

It looks like the aluminum angle should be turned over. extend them up a bit. And also extend the wood up a bit where the bolts will go through to wood. Just an Idea for the next one. Dave

Got it done!
looks are a bit rough!
i did paint it first but i came to put the next coat on and the 2nd coat reacted with the first(i'd had it mixed up to long)- so i had to strip it all off again!
then i thought that if it didnt float or run properly then why go to the bother of painting first! so i just polyester resin'd the outside to water tight it
Hooked up a 3 litre bottle of water to cool the head -a bit like a drip for it! so i could run it to get it dialled in so at least it idled!
Floppin 'eck it goes some![X(]
only used to plane engines -top whack about 12-14k rpm's!
so water time when i can get to the pond!
does the water scoop really put out a good stream of water when its running? only i dont know what to look for !
how long can it run when it's NOT in the water

got a small prob at the minute coz it wont shut off at full closed throttle! so cant stall the engine when i bring it in! lol Oh well run the tank dry then and get the waders on!

There should be a little screw on the carb back it out a bit it should let the carb close further. Then if you get it to close all the way use the trim tab on transmitter to raise the idle when you want to shut it off just use the trim tab to close it. You wont be able to dial it in on land it has to be put under load. Set it rich and give her a forward toss and see what happens.

Hi jon
i got my flex shaft from Hong Kong -even though its octura it was WAY cheaper!(although it might be a copy!!lol)-not too worried it flexes!
mine is a surface drive with a 48mm prop
you can use aircraft engines -its just that boat engines top out much more RPM's!
standard p[lane engine say about 15-17k rpms
boat engines seem to go at 25-40k rpms
still new to boats to so may be other differences!
you could just make a cooling coil for the top of yours? or make sure it sticks out the top of the boat!
my radio box is - now what do i have laying about in my workshop style!
all a bit homemade really
radio seals -you can get little rubber bellows to seal the link rods -i've still to get these yet!

my drive is OCTURA flex dive
its an octura coupling for .150 flex cable running with a teflon liner
an octura 3/16" stub shaft
the stub shaft runs in a doubled up brass tube i.e a tube in a tube with a bushing at the end to make up the difference with the liner thickness
the doubled tube just sticks straight out the back of the transom
i have a graupner 48mm plastic surface drive prop only coz they're cheap and you can get an idea on different props without spending a fortune!
i.e 78 pence compared to a metal one -sharpened and balanced £25-30!!
bag of plastic ones please! lol
my rudder i made myself! to expensive to buy! i ran out of birthday money! haha!! no really
any other questions fire away -but im just getting going!! so im learning myself! lol

Right got it to the pond- Blimey!! it goes!
Rides straight and flat!! absolutley gobsmacked! first time!!!!![X(]
ive got a finicky carb on it and it takes some dialing !! got it running on the low speed jet at the minute
its a 2 jet carb so works on low end jet and then the high jet comes in as well at about 3/4 throttle
cant get the top one right!! --yet!

how would a proper muffler/tuned pipe affect the engine running?

gonna run again on Sunday so a video is on its way!

was gonna ask how much the prop changes the running?
i run airboats also and the difference on a .40 engine for a 10x6 prop and a 10x7 is a lot!!
does this apply for boat engines aswell??
at the minute i have a Graupner 2317.48 (48mm) carbon fibre prop surface drive
would gonig smaller help the engine ?
it doesnt sound like its getting up to full revs to me?
how bout a 45mm?

Thanks
Graham

yes it may or a carb settings can be changed it sounds like your engine is boging dow sort of thing befor it gets to full throtel try leaning it abit if that dosent help try richening it to see what helps best and yes get a few different size props for it. hope this helps

looks good mate glad you got her done!! looks pretty good speed wise im sure a 40 to 45 mm prop will also increase her speed.mine runs a 45 mm prop mines a 60 size plane engine submerged drive runs about same speed as yours.you should be able to get a bit more from yours with a smaller prop.glad you took my advice on the plastic props !!! now get that dam thing painted lol.international japlac paint is great just brush it on and no brush marks and its fuel proof also.B&Q SELL IT IN A FEW NICE COLOURS FOR ARROUND£5!!

things are looking good .the engine needs a good pipe and that should make it better to set up and start screaming ,I
spent all day yesterday making fiberglass sheet for my build,, my friend now wants to build a Cat around the 40" mark and put two .60 aircraft engines in it does anybody have cat plans already at 40" approx as my printer cant scale things
Thanx Rick

Take er to the muffler shop. Good to see you got her going. It seems you need to either lean it out a bit or smaller prop. You can see in the video as the motor heats up and leans out a bit that it runs a bit better. I noticed this on the secondlap about 18 seconds into the video. You can hear the motor clean up a bit. First thing I would do is put a pipe on it. And watch out for them bouys. Dave

Oh and ya better get the seals for the radio box and get it sealed before you put her upside down.

dont spose any ones got a .40 tuned pipe they can measure up for me! so i can copy it!
cant turn it over though! did try some full speed full hard turns and it just turned!!
unless it try some really daft driving [X(][X(]
i do seal up the radio box with tape b4 i run though. no water in from the whole mornings running!
yes im gonna try a smaller prop and also fit a pressure nipple on the muffler coz at the minute the pressure feed pipe just sits inside the hull! lol[X(]
should be able to lean it out properly then
i get exactly 6 mins run from a 4oz tank? coz that was timed on astopwatch for my race run you saw-15 mins race though-
had to come in and refuel! eer twice[&:]
still i got 42 laps in-the other chap running done about 4!! haha! he had a few problems!to his one lap i lapped him like 3-4 times! rofl

i think with some inventive thinking i can get a double tank setup in!
keeps the weight nice too
one each side of the engine like the picture at the top of this page(you can see one tank in)
might try and get 6 or 8oz tanks in
maybe even solder up some nice brass ones -mmm bit heavy! maybe fibreglass some up!
just ordered a 45mm prop to try! yay!
gonna get a hood made for the top as well and then do some decor on it! gotta look nice for its next photo shoot[8D]
it is painted white in the vid! but gonna do a bit more

my tank sits directly in front of the engine in the next bay and its in the centre above the keel and fits snug right between the rails its an oblong tank and it was a perfect fit.have a shop arround and you will find one thats right for the job no messing with two tanks.i think it was made by thunder tiger its a yellow tank when i saw it i knew it was perfect and it just fit between the rails with about 1/8" to spare.seeign yours makes me want to get mine back on the water but i havent the time what with building pt boats and sailing my yaght.come spring ill get her afloat again and ill try and get some video just to prove that a submerged drive does work well with the right prop!!.i think 45 mm will be better for yours but id even say 40 mm might be even better!!.looking at your pics of your tank set up youve put the tank in the wrong place, try putting it in front of the engine. i made a hatch for mine so i can get at it if needed, and you will find the bay in front of the engine is much bigger than where you have yours!!.[img][/img]
