dave that is right from the site but if you look at the plans we have they are a little different and im guessing the glass foam part is just gluing the fillets to the foam and yes the home depot pink foam board is the good stuff to get it has many uses in the rc world

Mike I am gonna try building the same boat, but I have been looking at the build info on the firefighter sight to see what they are actually doing ( which is a little diffrent than what are prints look like example the sponsons). The 1/8 glass foam i dont know what that is? The other foam is the pink like insulation wall board at home depot??? I am not sure about that, but I priced it today 4x8 sheet was $10. Good luck and good boating.

Paul

p.s. I am gonna try the .09 version of this boat scaled down alittle more.

Im just going to build mine with the pieces I stated starting with the inside on the table glue the pieces stack it turn it upside down so everything levels up the make sure the back is square. then sand the outside then sheet the top back and bottom. Oh and when I stack it before I glue it all im going to make sure the stack is higher than the top and bottom.

No No dont get all geeked up I dont have the wood yet. Im talking when I do build it thats how iwill do it.[] The spar I will stck it according to plan sandwich between the inside and the 1/4 balsa the balsa will be easy to hog out so it fits.

Hey guys, I love this.... soo many people building little riggers!

ok, the glass foam thing is a composite panel i was messing with.... i has too many problems with it and stoped using it. i think for an 09 rigger id use .0625ply sponson inside, foam, 1/4 balsa, and foam again. just think about what weight/strength you want to end up with overall. when you hit something the tube will want to tear out. but it's a small boat. on a .21 I use 1/8 ply for both the inside and center. just decide how strong do you want it. the balsa in the center serves 2 proposes. it's a bit stronger than foam to take a bouy hit better and it is better to glue to. if you have just a foam core the tubes can pull out or get loose because the foam is just too weak.

Well last night i bought some material to get started building , 1/32 ply 1/16 ply 1/8 5ply and 1/8 balsa. I will look for some foam today again at the depot. I did find these pics of a finished .12 ff http://gallery.intlwaters.com/thumbnails.php?album=690 . It looks like 1/2 or maybe even a little more are on the inside.

Good luck Paul

also some 3/16 balsa

One problem I am having is sometimes I make it tough on myself, this is a .12 boat and im gonna try a .09 in this hull I figure I will scale it down. So over all my tub is gonna be about 16 1/2 x 2 1/16 x 1 1/16. So to build the tub I am gonna wait till I have my motor in hand to see if tub width will be ok ya know including motor mounts that is. Thanks for your info Tom, i really like the fact that you could be helping use with this build. Is the carbon fiber rods that connect the sponsons really needed to be ajustable up/down on a boat this small I see some do and some dont make them this way? Also what size carbon rod are you using, my lhs only has .210 carbon tube which I didnt think would be heavy enough? Ok thats enough questions for now, thanks everyone for all your help.

Paul

I also need to make sure servos will fit inside height wise.

Hay tom made it to RCU, great to have ya here also thanks for helping out with our building!
If I were you cheese I would make everything adjustable, what if you make it solid and it doesnt run out good!? My 7.5 rigger you can adjust the sponsons up and down on the front and back boom tubes and you can adjust it for width in two ways on both sides.

Yup thats how Im going to do mine adjustable. I might even start with the tubes a bit longfor rough water. Im going to be at about 22in tip of sponson to rear sponson. Im going to put a .12 in it Hey Tom how wide should the stance be for rough water running. dave

.12 in rough water... your kidding right

check out tubes from http://www.goodwindskites.com/merch/...ularfiberglass ive never had one but i think the FL291 fwet would be good. ive used this tube in other sizes and it's great cause you can put a screw through it without cracking.

I would design it to use .0625 shims under both sponsons. if only because it is an untested design so you never know how it will act completely.

I there any place that shows how the adjustments are to be made to sponson heights? I have an idea of how i would go about doing this but im not sure if it would be considered the correct way of doing this. Is there anywhere that has pics of the riggers close up so you can inspect the way they are assembled up front?

Thanks Paul

Come on Tom Im not going to be jumpin 12in waves. I know the rigger like the glass water. I have here the term used before some people widen the stance a bit for rough water. Dave

I dunno, I saw Don Templeton's .12 'rigger running right alongside of a Gas Cat. Somebody has the video of it somewhere, either Steve Colby or Mark Scott.
