I am curious...to see if folks are willing to answer...and if so...what their replies are...

The problem with your question, is that there are three different MACs 3.5 marine pipes (compound, high nitro, and low nitro), and I would imagine they will have different personalities that require different lengths.

The one I am running, is currently set at about 7 7/8ths inch from the glow plug to the wide part of the pipe. I have run it about a half inch shorter than this too...but have not tried any longer. I also have not done any GPS testing to see if I can get more speed out of the shorter setting...but its current setting is where I have gotten my highest GPSed speed.

Hopefully this info is helpful.

I have a little more testing to do...then I plan to put all information that I have figured out on the MV in a thread...for others to use.

I started at 8 1/2 in and wound up at 8 in. runs good there. and yes it will depend on the pipe, start long and work down till you find the sweet spot.

Works very well - That's the exact setup I have. Macs 2.5 pipe set 8.5" from glow plug (center of head) with stock header - running 30% O'Donnell car fuel, OS #8 glow plug. Octura Y535 prop with strut set about .75" below bottom of boat, and it's the version 1 Vegas.

Is that 8.5 from glow plug to widest part of the pipe?

Have you ever got a GPS speed, or RADAR gun speed on it? I have a 2.5 pipe, and keep thinking about testing it out...but there are too many other setups to test right now...so I keep putting it off.

Yes - 8.5" from glow plug to widest part of the pipe. I used a piece of solder and bent it around the header along the centerline to get the measurement.

No, I don't have a GPS or Radar Gun - I need one. So I'm just guessing - it was pushing 30 stock, and is pushing 40 now (I was the same speed as a good running Bonzi gas boat that is supposed to go 40+). The OS engine and Macs pipe made a huge difference. I think I could do better working on props and more nitro.

Well, I got a Garmin ForeTrex 101 GPS - little thing about the size of two watches side by side. I used velcro to stick it to the bottom inside of the hull behind the radio box. I got a max speed of 37.9 mph. I think I can do better with some prop work and some 65% nitro. I'll try that after a few more tanks of 30%.

I'll keep you posted

I should ask Gary about one of those mufflers the next time that I call him as I have another .12 project in the works. I still haven't tried out my stingered Mac pipe yet though.
