My local RC car and truck shop told me that the TZ model #OSMG1995 which is the one that I want is discontinud by the manufacture.[&o] But He did have a TR or a TG with a rorary carb and the standerd threaded shaft for $110.00. He said it is the predecessor to the TZ. Is this a good choice for a motor? He also had a RB Products motor that is made by Novarossi for $230.00 he said was compairable to the TZ. What motor would you guys suggest for a high output .12 rigger motor?

I JUST swapped out the .12 Dynamite in my .12 rigger with a OS .12 CV-R (10E carb). Haven't had it in the water yet but hoping to get to the lake Thursday. Will let you know how it goes, may take me a couple of weeks to get it sorted out but it has about double the HP then the Dynamite.
The TZ is nice but maybe hard to find.
Here is a good comparison Chart you can compair side by side:

Sheldons 408-946-3801
The LRP that Ron is putting in his mono looks good too,,Why not an .18?
heck of alot cheaper !

Wow I just looked at that site and that Dynamite .12SPD don't even compare to the other .12 motors.

My Feedback: (1)

The TG was more of a sport engine or for those that run on tracks where big horsepower isn't needed.
The LRp that I have is a .12, not an .18 as I've been building the boats for the IMPBA "A" mono class for years but haven't seen a race yet where they're running them.
What I've found out about RPM and HP numbers is that you can't trust them as you need to find out where the torque curve is at also. I've learned this the hard way 3 times, twice with Fantom .12's and now with the LRP. What I sholud be able to easily turn on the LRP right now it won't. I have to go really far down in prop size to get any RPM out of it, the same problem that I had with the Fantom's. They'll kick ass and take names at a dirt track but aren't worth a hoot on water. The OS's and the old Trinity/Picco's do run well in watercraft. One thing that is killing them though are the tiny 5.5mm bore carbs that ROAR mandates.
I don't know what's up at OS. they came out with several engines that were very good then the next thing that you know, the'yre dicontinued. Either they are coming out with some badder versions or just getting ready to jack the prices up. The OS 3.5 OB engine is an example. They quit selling it in the US but you could get them in Japan. They came out with a newer version with a different alloy piston and sleeve then the price goes up a Benjamin.

Ron you wrote:

Is there a bigger carb that will bolt on to an OS .12CV-R ?

Ummm Ummm I will say you barely have fuel to finish a race, if you use a larger carb you will never finish a race. I am running OS CVR .12 with 4oz tank on 50% nitro and MC9 plug turning a 40x52 or 215 prop.

Paul, your MPG's must be bad!
My Wild Thing .12 with the OS and a Nova Rossi .12 carb has plenty of run time. I'm probably using the same amount of fuel yet it's breathing better. The Grim Racer fuel cell only holds 4 ounces.
You can probably use just about any larger bored .18 or .21 carb but the base may have to be turned down. I'm using the Nova Rossi .21 carbs but something like a K&B gold carb would be an easier one to use. On an OS .12, the carb base would have to be turned down to 13mm. On some other .12's it may have to go down to 11mm but there isn't much left so the OS .18 carb (not the Aquacraft .18) could be a drop-in fit.
When my boat went from running wet to just barely on the water with just the carb change I knew that I had found something. A possible downside though is that air speed through the carb slows down so fuel atomization can be hurt.
