Default new Nitro boat- recomendations please

hi all,
looking at buying a new nitro boat . Spent some time reading here and there and I'm quite interested in the Proboat Thundercat 31 so far but...
I want something a little faster.
I do intend to race so I'm interested in either a mono or a cat ( no F1's, hydroplanes), must be nitro powererd and up to 36"
What would you guys recomend?
RTR or not - doesn't matter

We run a RTR-class at our local club, this class mainly ran the Shockwave 36 and thundercat 31, until we found this[link=http://cgi.ebay.com/32-deep-vee-25-nitro-pullstart-power-ARTR-set_W0QQitemZ290328894514QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRadio_ Control_Vehicles?hash=item4398f35c32]Little Gem[/link] .

Good build quality and very quick out of the box.

Looks good...and fast.
any problems with it?
Any changes you guys might suggest?
I sak this because I'd like to get everything up front rather than buy the boat , run it in and then find minor problems.

And any idea on the make of engine? all it says is its a Taiwan made .25 class water cooled pull-start nitro engine. I'd like to know a little more about it like max RPM, hp and so on . not to say theres any thing wrong with the included engine but some figures would be nice......... before I tear it down and mod it
Thanks guys!

You need to start somewhere. a 35 T21 NOVA ROSSI is going to cost more than that hull. you get what you pay for. got some hardware & a hull add you own engine. its not a cheap hobby

Actually, Nova Rossi makes a wicked .28 that's way cheaper than their .21. The TC 31 or SW 36 can be made to go a faster with just a little work, you just have to know what to do. I'm not really a fan of Pro Boat boats but I have to say that they're not really a bad deal for the price.
RTR's as-is aren't really what I'd consider race boats unless you plan to race in a RTR class. I don't know what the AMPBA has in the way of a RTR class if they have one. If you want to build then go for it it you have the experience otherwise go for a used boat. The option then is that if you have any races near you, a lot of racers bring boats for sale to events. This way you can ask questions in person and actually touch it.
Under 36" will put you into a nice mono boat with a .21, there are plenty of those around and a very popular class anywhere.

Ok, I bought the 32" deep Vee off Ebay - got to start some where right?
cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

first thing I'll do before it touches the water is to mod the engine, found out its the GO Tech .25 which there seem to be a few good write ups about the GO engines.

Obviously this one comes without any radio gear so I'm planning to use my DX3R Tx and after reading there are problems with the DX3R in a marine enviroment I contacted Spectrum to see what they suggest.
They replied saying I should be fine to use the SR3100 Rx as long as I keep the antenna above the water line.....

Ron could you send me some detail on where I can buy the .28 Rossi online (as I'm in South Africa)

The boat is supplied with a [link=http://www.go-engine.com/in-products/23-MR2500-P60HOS.htm]Go-Engines[/link] and not the Go Tech, but I am sure a Rossi will really wake it up.

Some changes we made:
- bigger fuel tank (as we run 12 laps on an offshore course)
- the exhaust gasket seems weak and pipe a bit long so we replace this with [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDLE1&P=ML]HPI Header[/link]
- put some flotation on the hatch
- we also use starter belts
- I replaced the hatch lock with magnets.
- Run an Octura M 545 or worked M 645 and some 40% nitro.

wondering about the green cooling jacket the engine has in the picture, all the go 25 pros I have are black block with a coral (red) head and just flipped through the dealer book all the way from a 3 port pull start to the 6 port pro 25 all come with a coral head same with the 28's not saying it isnt a true go engine just wondering

Hi toyotatruckin

i think the pic might be misleading..

Johnny sells a watercooled head - probably added that for the pics, but its not the Pro engine its the standard engine (its the red head and gray casing)

Are you happy with the performance the 'Prop' version offers ?

Didn't pick up on the Go tech/Go-Engines.... thanks for that.

Doctorevil,
Do you guys do any engine mods to the Go-engines?

I plan to mod the sleeve, crank and exhaust port the same as I do with my other nitro's or are they not worth it?

yes we mod them (in Africa we mod everything ) - turbo the crank, bit of work on the sleeve and raise the exhaust timing. Nice engine to work on and had no problems so far - just the pull starts we struggle with.

have fun.

Glenn Quarles sells them in the US at www, novarossi.us but maybe there is a dealer in SA.
This might help you: http://www.novarossi.it/eng/support/...rica&brand=rex

Go's seem to run very well, not as good as the high end engines (stock)yet better than a lot of them out there, they are made very well parts wise but do see several things in them that are done for production and are not hand worked anyplace after made but if that was done price would be much higher rods in them are pre modified so to speak so no need to alter them and weaken the rod which is a large plus

left to right 21 3p pull, 25pro, 21pro, and 18 rear all factory
and my modified 18 side exhaust GO

Anyway Merry Christmas to everyone!!

Default RE: new Nitro boat- recomendations please

Got my new boat yesterday and spent most of the day running it in. Turns out just about every screw was loose and blew the rubber exhaust coupler off the headder twice- loose muffler clamp and loose cable ties on the rubber coupling. Put 2 litres of fuel through the boat yesterday running quite rich and it ran very well.

Took the boat out again today to begin tuning and for the life of me it will not start. changed the glow plug -twice, checked for fuel blockages inc. the carb- all clear , both leaned out and richened up the fuel mix nedles adjusted the idle and the best I could get was a good idle but as soon as I applied any throttle the engine dies regardless of the fuel nedle settings. I flattened my glow ignitor twice before giving up for the day. fuel is 25% , first glow plug was the origonal Go-engines, 2nd plug was an OS A5 and 3rd was an OS A7- fuel and plugs were all brand new , un opened and all 3 plugs glow nicely on the ignitor
Any ideas?

edit;
just slipped the head off to check and everything is as new
