You can, though it may be a waste of time and money. A wood hull is inherently bouyant, so if the hull isn't damaged, it shouldn't sink. In fact, I've only seen one boat sink and heard about a second, both being glass hulls

how big a hole or how much should I cut out on the glue block on the back of the sponson transoms?how much material should I leave around that triangle glue block?

I'd leave around 1/8th inch, more if that little would bother you. As I see it, it's better to go slightly lighter now than trying to figure out how to lighten later

RE: Dumas 1/8 Miss Circus Circus build help
Hello all I am somewhat new to this hobby. Years ago like 1996 I was building a Miss Budweiser hydro and I was just about done and I had to leave for basic training well I come home to find that my Miss Bud took a header off the shelf at the hands of a family members child and poof no more boat..to this day I am wondering where that boat disappeared too. Anyways I recently bought a Miss Circus Circus 1/8 and I am going to be assembling this well as soon as I get home from Iraq. So far I have bought the wood kit and the hardware kit...now my question(s) is this who makes the best kind of epoxy and or glues that will be used in the boats construction? Where can I get a .67 engine??? I know you are all saying DOH not another noob !!! I have been looking high and low for that Miss Bud and as soon as I heard that Miss Circus Circus was out I was all about getting it and wanting to build it. Hey I appreciate all your help have a good one. I will talk to you all soon.

first off I want to thank you for your service, my oldest daughter has just finished her medical training at Fort Sam Houston in Texas and she could be deployed to Aphganisan, but I hope not! Anyway back to your question. I myself like West Sytem epoxy, because it is for marine use, as for a .67 motor I too am looking for one. Good luck with the boat and just ask like I did on here. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here to help you. Thanks again!

Hey I love our great country so I am more than happy to do my duty in defence of our great nation. Tell your oldest daughter I said hang in there it gets easier after she gets through all of her training. Afghan is a cake walk she will be fine just tell her to take care of herself and bring a laptop. I appreciate your help with the boat build. I sent an e-mail to Dumas for their recommendation on a supplier for a .67 engine. I was told K&B manufacturing , I googled their website and they have one for about $450.00 not too sure if there are any cheaper around, but if I find any cheaper I will let you know and if you would do the same I would appreciate it.

$450 for a K&B???????????????
I bought a CMB, which is much hotter, header, coupler and pipe for around $600 last winter. Come to think about it, I have a pair of NIB K&B .67s. It's a night and day difference between the K&B and CMB. Due to the outdated design of the Dumas Circus, Miller and Atlas scale kits, the K&B might be the best choise for them[sm=50_50.gif]

well looks like I will be going for the K&B .67 because I cannot really find anything else. Well I am sitting here just drooling over the pictures of this boat and I cannot wait to get my hands into the kit and get to work...but I still have some more time out here in the desert.... (SIGH) anyways does anyone have a pics of in process build of the Miss Circus Circus? I would love to see them as well if you have any tips on building this boat.. I am not too worried so much ? Any Jigs I need to build prior? Stands? ETC ETC. Sorry I do not mean to blab but I just want this boat to turn out very nice. Thanks again

I just saw that there are two K&B .67's on this list:

I think all the stuff listed is West of the Divide, though.

Are you refering to the two K67's? Those ARE NOT K&B's, they are Kalistrovs(SP) from Russia. The biggest problem with those is that I think they are no longer made, so if you need parts, good luck.

Oops, my mistake. Thanks for the additional information. This just demonstrates how long I have been out of the loop. I didn't even know about Kalistrov's. Were they good engines?

I agree, that Dumas designed jig does look good. Where it fails is keeping the boat bottom flat when you glue it on. I would recommend either moding that one or building a second jig with a flat surface so that the bottom goes on and stays flat. Nothing harder than tuning a boat with a twisted frame or warped bottom
