Have not been to the field for about a month until Sunday. My Shrike 40 still has flutter problems. I'm running a single aileron servo. I first tightened up that linkag but it did not work. I put monokot over the hinge gap that did not work. I cut the outside edge of each aileron at a 45 degree angle and still the flutter remains.

I debating what to do next. Install a pair of Hi Tec HS-85MG servos for the ailerons. Drawback to this is I really like the clean look of the single aileron servo as it hides all the linkages. Other choice is to cast blame on the elevator as source of flutter. It is a tighter linkage than the ailerons and has not been suspect until now. I would repeat the treatment of covering hinge gap and triming left and right edges of control surface.

Any thoughts from you all? Do you run dual aileron servos in your Shrike 40s?

Thanks Dave for the quick service on the Shrike plans! He shipped them out promptly and I got them right away! Way faster than I ever expected. I live in Alaska too. Stuff sometimes takes weeks to get here.

Thanx for the suggestion. So they give you a few more R's hey? Hmmm.....how about sound, does it sound any different. I'm getting nearly 16k rpm right now with the stock OS muffler w/baffle removed. Needless to say, it's loud.

Not much more than stock with the baffle removed and not as loud as a Tuned pipe. The benefits out weigh the DB's. Dave...

ORIGINAL: antiquefer

I flew a 1/2a shrike on sunday. It was given to me by a friend who had it set up for electric. He crashed on first try. I modified firewall and installed a non throttled .049 Norvel. I guessed wrong on CG and threw it into the ground on first try. Moved battery back 3'' and away it went. Few clicks of roll and pitch trim and it was on rails. Fast little bugger. Very controllable even at slow landing speed. I need a set of planes so I can build another one for a spare. Any one got a set they might get rid of?.........................antiquefer.
Flying Models has the plans.

http://www.flying-models.com

Then click on "Plans Directory" in the top left corner.

You want plan CD044. You can find it just be entering "shrike" in the search box. Plans are only $7.00, and if you've already converted one to nitro, this will be a no-brainer for you.

What do you guys think about the OS .35AX on the .10 size shrike? Is the .35AX much bigger or heavier than the discontinued OS .32FX?

I'll join the strike club. I posted in the question and answers, but I guess I should have gone here. I have a lanier strike 40 I'm about 80% done with. I've moved since I started it and seem to have lost the instructions. Anyone happen to know were I could get a copy hopefully to download. GP bought them out and it seems they haven't posted anything having to do with the company. Also I can deal with the hand launch but having retracts would be awesome. Does anyone have some detailed pics on how and what was modified to get them in

Give this a shot.

Here's some pix of how another guy did the retracts. Can't remember his name, at the moment anyway.

Luck.

Unless you find one on ebay, you won't find a kit. You can get plans to make one from www.flying-models.com (see post above).

Very nice job. You should start a covering thread. I am sure many, like myself, would like to know how you planned your covering scheme.

I'm sorry I missed the maiden! And I agree...Alessandro is awesome at finishing his planes be it covering or painting. I am lucky enough to have his artwork on one of my airplanes, GWS P40, and am looking to bribe him to do his magic on another....send me your wish list my friend!

Hi,

many thanks for the replies.

Here below some more pics a member took both on the ground and on the air (it was quite difficult to slow it down enought to take a pic).

About the covering job, red is solarfilm, the tilas are covered in white monokote and the white decoretions are self adesive decals (i have to change them due to the low tak under fuel exposure with solatrim). The letters are cut with a small vinil cutter.

Nice !
But WHY such a tiny engine on this airframe [&:] ?? It deserves a way more powerful one !!
By the way, I can't understand why you use a starter on this 15LA, it hand starts so easily
And what are these screws at the bottom of the rudder fins ? Aren't they glued to the stab ? [X(]

Hey Alessandro, I like your design, it's a real eye catcher. I wish you many hours of happy flying with your new Shrike. If you want a few more RPM's out of that engine, you can replace your existing glow plug with a K&B 1L plug and enlarge the little hole in your muffler baffle. I'm also thinking that APC prop might be a little too much for the engine your chose. Perhaps you may want to try a Master Airscrew prop 7x5 or 7x6

can it do the job?

About the screws, the vertical stabs are glued, reinforced (you can see a triangle pieces on the inboard) and srewed for added safety.

You sure give me inspiration!
I have just about finished my little 15 sized gem - check the pic! I'm using older HS-80 servos for the ailerons - which BTW are in the wings - didn't want to clutter up the fuselage bay.
I have it set up for an older K&B 3.5 (.20) BB FIRE engine. Probably should have set it up for a pipe, but this little engine had a lot of OOMPH for a 20.
I'll probably try it like it is first, but if I think I can handle a bit more speed - I'll be going with a pipe.
Prop will likely be an 8 x 4 to start - this gives lots of RPM and maybe not quite so much speed.
I previously had a SIG Wonder with an OS 25 and kind of got blown away by a little 15 powered Shrike (back-in-the-day)
So I'm now going for this.

Not quite sure of the color scheme, but I do like the sun-ray scheme. Love those suns-rays on the verticals!!!

I personaly have the same engine on a Sig Wonder, it's running 5% modeltechnics fuel, with an APC7x7 which is perfect. Nice speed and nice static thrust (I do not even have to run to hand launch it). I'm also curious to see if using this pipe would help much. It came to my mind several times as well !!
