Was thinking about buying the Tower Hobbies 46 engine for my GP easy sport 40, and eventually another engine to put on a twin comache I bought plans for off ebay. Has anyone run this engine, and how did it come out? seems to be fairly high HP rating comparatively to the other engines

these are just a cheap kick off engine to get the beginner flying, i wouldn,t touch it. also if your considering a twin engine model you must have 2 engines that are as good as each other [ 2 new ones ] run in simultainlesy otherwise you will have big flight problems with exact tunings.

I can't remember who makes Towers engines, but the muffflers used to be huge...however if you're thinking of getting a Tower engine (any engine) and flying it now to put on a twin later, with a new engine..... I wouldn't...on your twin you want two of the same brand and size engines, with roughly the same run time on them......One of your new engines will be weaker than the other...don't ever try to bring the weak engine up to the stronger one..instead adjust the strong engine to the weak one..in other words the weak engine is the master

well since the Tower 46 has not been available for months and probably wont be
available for months more if ever why not consider something else?
I would recommend the Thunder Tiger 46 pro. I have 4 of them and
they all run excellent. And they are available right now.

The Tower .46 runs really well when you get good one and manage to dial it in. They are a lot of trouble compared to higher quality engines though. I definitely wouldn't consider it for use on a twin.

Don't get me started on the 46AX...
I will try to keep this short, but it is very difficult for me...let's see:
I was told by a guy who only flies electric that 'your 46AX almost makes me want to go glow; it's the only engine here that runs RIGHT."
I just learned how to prime it (only two flips of the prop). It now starts on the first or second flip of the stick, EVERY DAY.
I can't justify buying an electric starter. I look at them, and just think how much of a waste of money when I can use a stick every time.
The only thing more forgiving than the O.S. 46AX is God.
I needed a second engine for my next plane. I got a 55AX.
Is that enough? If not I'm happy to keep on going. I will never buy another brand engine. Oh, and mine's been through two serious crashes, requiring complete disassembly. Now it runs even better. Seriously.
Run 10% nitro. No need for more. Really, don't bother. I like Wildcat Extra, 10% nitro, 18% oil, 80/20 synthetic/castor. I tried other mixes, 10% is the best for this engine.
Congratulations.

I have two AX .46's. I can't say anything but positive things about them.
They start and run flawlessly, make gobs of power, and they swing props
that are well into four stroke territory. Well worth the $100. or so you'll
pay for it. My only gripe is with the muffler, but the after-market will take
care of that.

Derek: You made a good decision. The AX series is so easy to live with, I still can't believe how good they are. I have a 46, two 55s and a 120. They start so easy, I'm probably only going to use my starter on my 3 blade prop applications, which are tough to hand start without getting bit.
Almost forgot to mention this: I had three Tower 46s. All three ended up in the local landfill. Absolute junk.
