I think that the one line advertsement between posts is really anoying as it breaks the post sequence
I would realy appreciate if it's discontinued there is a lot of advertisement anyway.....

It is one fewer than we had just a month ago. A month ago we had 2 lines at the top of the thread listings. I removed them both. Now there is only this one. A net reduction of one. Also we use that spot for public service announcements not just ads. It is important to inform members of many features we have here that they may not know about. My click data already suggests this is working well. Give it a few days I'm sure it won't bother you quite so much. Anything different requires a short adjustment period.

This keeps coming up. Ads in the middle of the forums are annoying. The top wasn't as bad, but the middle IS annoying. (I know, I know, I've said it before on this subject)

as I said that spot is shared between ads sometimes and our own internal RCU information/news and sometimes it will be only news/info and at other times maybe only ads. It is noticeable which is good because that helps to ensure info is getting out to the members. Unfortunately when something is in the same spot too long it tends to get "tuned out". I removed the top 2 rows after a long period as they were tuned out by many. In time this spot will give way to another one and it will too go away.

those ads are annoying! I normally don't post here, those ads drove me to this forum to voice my opinion... as a fellow webmaster I see your point, the clickthroughs on those are higher, but the annoyance level is also higher.

Hey, I think advertising is good & I'm glad it helps the site but it's starting to crowd the forum a little.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. We do appreciate it. Fact is also that any changes provoke discontent. I've changed colors here on RCU and people complained. I've added stuff and people complain. I've removed stuff and people complain. Any change is always going to provoke dissatisfaction. It is a guarantee. However it is also a guarantee if you aren't moving forwards you are moving backwards and we will continue to try and improve RCU all the time and keep our level of service at the highest levels. I'm sure if everyone here had to choose between that ad staying or going and waiting an extra 10 seconds for every page to load OR paying $10 per year they would opt for that ad 98% of the time.

We would move to a zero ad environment but it turns out users actually do want to see ads here to see what is new and where to get it. Many great offers in these ads. We have run polls that always bear this out. We did offer to make RCU advertising free and have the members pay a couple bucks a year to support it but that was shot down big time by the members everytime it is suggested. Free is just better.

Can we have a poll to remove the Ad's between posts and move it back to the way it was. It was no problem at the top or bottom of the page, but just dont put them inbetween posts, it is really annoying.

I completely understand that you need to experiment to see what works & I'm glad you care enough to put the effort into it but when huge letters break up the forum it looks bad. If you're getting more $$$ then it's worth it. But PLEASE stay away from ads that follow you down the page. They're even worse than pop ups! I dig the advertising when it's not distracting & it has something to do with why I'm here. I'm looking forward to the day when we can keep the airplane ads in the airplane section & have more than a few car ads in the car section. I know a lot of people cross over between land & air R/Cs which is cool in my book but when they're looking for info for their MT they don't need to be distracted by the newest 3D plane.

Either way it is an AD in the MIDDLE of the forum.

This is the same thing that was said last time the middle of the page ads were tried. It may be that people just don't like them in the middle of the page, regardless of how it is spun.

Don't get me wrong Marc, you have a great site that you have worked hard to build. But, re-introducing things that the users don't like, just because you want it that way, won't help your site, whether it is the "rate the post" or ads in the middle of the page.

We realize that you make your money off advertising, and yes I will click on some at the top of the page...but the middle of the page break is annoying, and I for one won't be clicking on anything in that location.

Savage_Dias,

Do you have your "Universe" set to cars? If so you should NOT see any airplane ads on RCU when you are in the car forums or elsewhere on RCU. You can tell if you are as the collage at the top of the page will show only car stuff and not planes, boats, helis, cars. If you are NOT set to car preference ("car universe") then just click MyAccount atop any page and set it there or go to the main RCU homepage and the top right panel there allows you to choose your universe.

I checked your record and it looks like you ARE set to cars. Next time you see any airplane ad in the car forums if you can please right click it and copy the url and/or image path. Email it to me at support at rcuniverse dot com and I'll check to see if it was not tagged correctly. the 3D plane ads should NOT show ever in car forums or throughout site if you are set to Car Universe. IF you do that indicates a mis-tagged ad.

You know what, I have only been here for a little better than a year. For some reason, it really doesn't bother me! Frankly, if you don't like them - don't look at them.

Maybe that's easier said than done for some, but all in all, just try to ignore them if they get to you so much..
