This thread started in the Beginner's forum, but should have been here. I think it's a great idea.

I think we do a decent job of helping with RC-specific computer questions (sims and such), along with questions about using RCU. However, for more general computer help there are other places on the Internet that can provide far better help than we ever could here.

The reason I answered this in the beginners section is because I have seen this help a lot of R/C forum users. I spend 90% of my internet time on 4 R/C forums, rarely do I go anywhere else (if I do it’s to check several other smaller R/C forums maybe once a week). This is where I choose to spent my time, if I have it to spend on my butt. These forums are RCU, Spadworld, RCCA, and RCCanada. The vehicle I use to get here is my computer. I’m average to catching up in my computer skills. I have questions quite often. Do I want to hunt in a sea of people and places I don’t know for an answer? This takes a LOT of time and guesswork, and from past experience…usually answers WAY over my head…or do I want to pop to the computer topic, ask my question, continue to read and post where I enjoy being…and then pop back in to see if my question is answered? It is for this very reason that I requested a computer topic at RCCA, and they added it. When Spadworld fired up…they put one there also. In the last year I have gotten 100% without fail, the answers I’ve needed to my computer questions from fellow flyers…and never left the forum. Things I’ve learned from computer topics at R/C forums include remote picture posting for airplane pics, resizing and file converting airplane pics, removing the klez virus, reading model airplane CAD file I downloaded from forums…and where to get the freeware, adding text to airplane pictures, where to get the video players and how to use them for forum posted videos, etc. I’ve been warned of potential viruses, and learned how to change my video card and add a serial port for an R/C sim cable. I’ve also learned what CGI is and how it works, been directed to web page analyzers so the Spad site runs better, and where to go for a computer health check-up. I’ve gotten pop-up filters and found my zone-alarm freeware all from advice I got from fellow modelers…all the while never leaving the forum I choose to spend my time on. No biggie if your not interested…just don’t forget how everyone gets here…and most of them would like to stay here. Keeping RCU user’s computer screens purple/blue/grey should be priority #1. In all of the different facets of R/C, our computers is probably the biggest thing we have in common. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's been tried on a couple R/C forums and although not a hevily trafficed area, has proven to be a priceless addition when it's needed...as important to getting R/C'ers to the forum as it is getting your planes to the field...and there is a lot of trailer and vehical transport type threads here. Ok...I'll shut up now

Well..since alot of what we do here on RCU involves users or moderators helping each other navigate through RCU using the computer or using computer tools as you said to resize pictures, do video for RC and so on that might be enough of a stretch to allow a fringe topic like that here.

I wouldn't call it computer discussion forum but more of a RCU technical discussion on how to use the computer and software tools to enhance your use of RCU and its features.
