Default Spelling, grammar

Is there any way to put a spell/grammar-check on the posting screen? Some people compose so badly, I can hardly understand what they are posting.

Firefox has spell-check built in. Those who wish to communicate properly (but lack spelling skills) would do well to switch browsers. The rest don't care. They'll ignore the little red squiggles and post gibberish, whether the feature is available or not.

I have also surmised there might be a relationship between correct grammar/spelling and the number of recent 12oz curls performed. But I'm no English major myself.

If you're a real perfectionist, open another tab with Word or some other program with a spell checker, then just copy and paste into your post! This also helps keep a lengthy post from timing out your internet connection with RCU.

I'm using Firefox but it will only check spelling if I right-click the text box and select "Check spelling". I'm sure most of these people are not going to do that voluntarily. I was hoping for something that was more automatic. But then again, if it was there, they will probably just ignore it. An then there's the grammar thing...

"12 oz. curls" got me chuckling.

I see some very intelligent, talented members posting with such poor grammar and it makes me wonder how they got out of school with such little skill in language. Not a very good testimony for our educational system.

Oops, am I showing my age, here?

I just started using FF a few days ago. The spell-check is working automatically for me. I didn't have to do anything. With Maxthon I had to right click and check it like you describe.

Thanks for that information. I will have to do some more checking. Do you know what version of Firefox you're using?

I think it is the latest one. 3.6.3

I finally found the spell check . It is tools/options/general/check my spelling as I type.

That's the same version I'm on. And "Check my spelling as I type" is checked. It's not working for me, though. Maybe I'll have to reload Firefox.

Thanks for your help.

If you have spell check enabled in the options menu, then it should work automatically for any text box with more than one line. If it's not working automatically, then yes, reinstalling FF is probably the way to go. More details here: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/...pell%20checker

Kgibson4: Amen, brother. . . and if what you say is showing our age, then "I'm so glad I'm not young anymore" (as sung in "Gigi.") Unfortunately, it is not solely an "age thing" but that's a topic for other forums than one for R/C folk. I can honestly say though that in one instance, the guy's bad spelling was so painful that I refrained from contacting him about buying the plane.
