St2000

Hello Ms. Cross. It's nice to have you here to answer our questions! Thanks for participating.
I bought a 1/4-scale Great Planes Giles 202 a while back, and will be assembling it soon (or maybe I should say "eventually"; too many projects!).
I have a new-in-the-box ST2000 and a J'Tec Pitts muffler for it. I also have a Perry pump and pump carb for the engine.
1) Do you think this engine is too heavy for the Giles?
2) Should I start off using the Perry pump and carb, or do you think I would be OK using the stock carb and no pump?
Thanks for your advice.

Bob,
You'll have to forgive me...the 2000 is too long ago for me to remember off hand. Can you tell me easily her size and weight? if not, i'll go pull some of hte older books and look her up (she's not on our computers any more).

The S2000 I have is 25cc., and weighs 43 3/4 oz. The output is listed as just 2.8 HP@10,000 RPM. The ST recommended props are 18x6 and 18x8.
I guess this engine is much heavier and much less powerful than the newer G2300. If it's unsuitable for the Giles, I'll just buy a different engine for it, and use the big ol' S2000 in a Nosen 1/4 Citabria kit in my cellar I may build someday.... ;-)
Thanks again.

Hi Bob! while it wouldnt be my first choice for hte aircraft, it does not sound like an unreasonable choice. The G2300 is my engine of choice for it when pumped as described in another thread. The OS 160FX is my second choice.
i've seen people flying it on the US41, which weighs far more (and requires a lot of tail weight) and spins only slightly more prop. It is not hte best performer in that combination, as it is simply too heavy to be a good 3D bird; however, it still has reasonable power (can hang but at WFO and takes some effort).
I think your G2000 would fly the plane nicely; if you are looking for climbing torque rolls, then you likely want something more.
