Default ST 3250 problem

I was just told by a very ST knowledgeable engine guy that ALL 3250 engines have a problem with the piston ring not having sufficient end gap thus causing overheating, flameout and deadsticks. Fix is to remove ring and grind off about .040

Can you comment on this before I put my new P51 in the air.

Regards, Dick L.

Default ST 3250 problem

Dick,

Some of the very early SuperTigre S3250 engines had a problem where the piston had been made with the wrong aluminum alloy. This caused the piston to expand too much when the engine warmed up. SuperTigre caught this problem after the first production run. Later runs had the correct piston.

There never was a problem with the piston rings, and all of the engines that had the wrong pistong didn't have problems. Only the ones that had pistons on the large side of the production tolerances.

Just break in your engine as recommended, and you should be fine.
