This was my last post from the old part IIthread which is not working properly again. Thought I would post it again.
Yes the phoenix organised sim session on saturday was cool, but it would have been much better if I had a microphone. I will for next time.
Well Ihave some paypal credit from the parents as it's my birthday next week so the 450GT has been officially retired. Ihave a new build starting soon. I've ordered the kit but still deciding 100% on other bits for it. This is what Ihave so far:
Tarot 450 PRO V2 FBL (I will have two of them, slightly different spec)

[*]Align DS520 rudder
[*]Orange rx 6 channel - had no problems with this on the GT

The tailrotor you linked to is a 450Pro style unit. The blades you linked to are also 450Pro; length from pin to tip should be +/- 63mm. These blades have approx 40% more surface area than the V1/V2 tapered style, most of it at the tip, and they aren't feathered. They are gonna howl like a SOB in comparison under heavy loading, because they're moving almost twice as much air. This can cause your belt to skip too, if you've gotten lazy about checking belt tension, which can also make an obnoxious racket. Don't ask how I learned THATlesson.
If you're going to use the 450Pro tailrotor, make sure you use a tail servo rated for at least 1.8KG pull; between the larger blade area and the increased rotational massof the 450Pro tailrotor's gyro weights, that tail needs a lot more torque to push it around. Align used a DS520; it's rated 1.9/2.5KG at 4.8/6.0V.
[EDIT]
Looking at the photo, I can't say the CNC quality of that particular tailrotor looks any better than what I've gotten from LeadersHobby; they have a complete Pro tail for $4.99 here: https://www.leaderhobby.com/product....=9394001220449 Unless you're set on that color it seems like a better deal, and they're both coming from China. Better hurry, though; only 2 left in stock. Myself, I'd just replace the bearings unless the rotor I had was already damaged.
On a side note; did you see that Goblin-clone canopy/fuselage kit? http://www.rc711.com/shop/alzrc-devi...it-p-6590.html

Wonder if I should try a pair of the stock ones and see if it makes a difference.

Does anyone use a servo tester, or have a recommendation for one ? I know some radios have servo testing functionality, mine doesn't. I want to be able to run servos on the bench for a time period before installing them.

So if you have a zyx, a great addition, if you don't have a fbl, then a great time to get a zyx!

What are you looking to do? Are you just looking to do some cycled sweeps to burn in the servos, or are you looking to measure servo speed to make matched sets?
If the former, the HK & Turnigy cheapies work well; I have both.

Try & catch them on a swarm at RC International ; I got both mine half price that way.
If you want to do actual speed tests and accuracy testing, I haven't seen anything out there that looks as promising as the AEO-RCServo Doctor; it will probably be my next bit of kit since I'm looking into going FBL and will want to make matched sets. I was hoping to find it back in stock at HobbyPartz since they show it on sale; but it's been OOS for a month now.

Hey, it looks like HK has it rebranded here: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...o_Sensor_.html
Not as cheap as HobbyPartz, but I suspect that once they have it back in stock the price will go up again anyways.

The Tarot ZYX programer does an amazing job IMO. You can stress them by automaticallyu running them as well as test the speed (this is how I found out my 510's don't perform to spec : ( but my 65's do better than spec ; )
So if you have a zyx, a great addition, if you don't have a fbl, then a great time to get a zyx!

Dont really care for speed testing etc... just want to run up new servos to make sure they are not going to fail in the first 5 minutes. Rob had a radio, i think it was a JR that ran the servos contoniously at different speeds or random to run them in and test them etc.

I would recommend the Turnigy 760HV then; the HK one is single speed on the continuous sweep function and only good to 4.8V. The plastic printed sheet wrapper is pretty cheesy and it falls off all the time; it's only worth getting if you can pick it up on the swarm for $2 like I did.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11780
I got the Turnigy for a robotics project; It will run on up to 3S input for testing HV servos, plus it has variable continuous sweep cycle speed and 4 buffered signal outputs. Plus, its 1520uS/760uS switchable pulse width is ideal for testing higher end digital servos. Just remember it sends out the same voltage to the servos as you power it with, so don't plug a 3S pack into it and test 6V-rated servos; you'll let the magic smoke out of them.

Hi Jonsey,
The new 450 project sounds good.
I can recommend this servo tester; http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...o_Tester_.html
I also note that Hobby King now sell a 550 size heli, is anyone going to be the test crash dummy, it may be OK!!! Maybe time for you to get a 500 size heli in the air Jonsey, you will love it!
Hi All,
I haven't flown anything (except the 130X in the backyard) for 2 weeks due to very blustery conditions in Sydney for last few weekends. When I go out now I want to fly both helis and planks, and the planes are more susceptible to wind than the helis. My 130X continues to power on, and I have put it into a treee and the ground, both full bore, no damage or issues whatsoever, just pick up, check over and fly again!
I've also started riding on the weedend with a couple of mates (non powered variety), to keep fit without ruining the joints jogging, so I'm now officially a MAMIL.
Also work is very busy, I'm bogged down doing some M&A activities, lots of long hours!
best to all
Phil

Has anyone tried these yet ? They look like an ideal rudder servo:

I'd love to have a 550 but at this point Ican't afford to keep a unit like that in the air as well as a 450. I could probably just have one 550 and no 450's but who wants just one heli

Im ordering a few batteries for my mcpx which I have not flown for about 2 months as all my nanos died.
My mate got to fly his 130x and he loves it. He mentioned it had a bit of wobble when decending but it holds very solid. The guy at the local hobby shop here rekons the tail blades on some of them are not balanced properly which is causing a vibration in some units.
The weather has been crap here as well the last week or so. I've been busy at work as well and with all 3 of my birds down it's good timing.

I forgot.
The new tail rotor and grips didnt fix the problem as it was the same today after another 3 flights.
Its really protesting doing right turns.
Checked the belt tension and its fine, no slipping at all.
So that leaves me with your other suggestions. I have a new stock tail setup and will replace the cheap HK bearings with new ones and put the stock blades back on as well.
If that doesnt fix it then looks like the DS420's arent up to the task and will try a 520.
If thats the case Im stuck with 2 useless servos as the pro has one on it as well
Or maybe Ill just maiden the pro and see if it suffers the same.
@ Jonesy. The new thread is loading a lot quicker. Like the specs for the new pro.
@ Phil. Yeah the weather has been terrible but Ive got more flying in the last week than Ive had for months.

Hi guys back in the modern world again. Did get some time to fly the mcpx and it was a joy doing so. Had to make some repairs to the canopy after a few hard landings but it is still flying great.
Have a great picture (5.8Meg in size) of my son's BOL making a crossborder flight - suppose it can officially be considered an international air space violation- from the Namibia to the Angola side of the river. Did not land it as any perception problem may have caused it to topple over on the grass 150 meters away on the other side even if I had the bino's on it most of the time. We did a range test before we tried it and had a full lipo in it. We were about 25 meters higher in Namibia and on the way back power had to be increased constantly to get the lift. Likely the first BOL to fly in Angola but can obviously not confirm that.

That looks suspiciously like the MKSDS95 I was drooling...err, looking over when RikeyBob first got me thinking about the FBL thing...
http://www.mksservosusa.com/product....5&cat=6&page=1
Specs are suspiciously similar too. I wonder if it's a clone, a rebrand, or if HK is just buying the ones that don't quite meet MKS standards. I see it comes up at $21.77 if I wait... *wibble*
[EDIT]
Uh-Huh. And here's the rebranded MKS DS92A, which are highly recommended as FBL Cyclic Servos... $22.23 if I wait. *Wibble-ibble*

And here are the rebranded wing servos:

Good thing my credit cards are already maxxed out; I'd be looking at a FBL rebuild on my HDX450. And maybe a new scratch-built EDF Jet with gyro too...

Hi Jonsey,
The new 450 project sounds good.
I can recommend this servotester; http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...o_Tester_.html

Have you used the Speed Test function on that unit? How does it monitor the arm motion to verify actual speed?
Hmmm... I wonder if it monitors current draw; that would at least tell it when the servo stops driving the motor because it THINKSit has arrived at 60°. That doesn't necessarily mean it actually HAS traveled that far or that fast though...

You got me thinking thats for sure.

Hiya Kidz!
Hated that I missed the Phoenix party but really enjoyed my five day camping/boating event!
As I was reading I laughed at the obviated point that Jonesy the IT guru couldn't scare up a mic. Sometimes comedy writes itself!
The RC711 Goblin clone stuff was interesting!
The HK550 looks cool but I am not into the flybarred heads anymore.
I have to say, the 550 size is really optimum in my world, when you step up in size to the 600 EVERYTHING is more expensive!
Off weekends for the next three weeks and intend to enjoy every one of 'em!
Prolly slip out to the flying club Thurday!
All the best!

PS Welcome back to the real world Edmund!
