I am impatiently waiting for my new DX7, the only guy that hasn't had a hit this last year has been flying helis with the DX6.
You're question earlier about headspeed. I tach it on the ground and my speed control is setup in the governor mode. With a 4 cell setup you can go from spooled up on the ground to full 11 degrees positive without noticing any rpm droop. Pretty wild liftoff. LOL Ticktocks are crisp and instant.

What is a better heli? The 450sa or the 450s Carbon Fiber? They are both around the same price so what is better?
Thanks

Commander Bob, I forget what the difference is between them. I like the Carbon better than the aluminum. But the best is the SE.

Had the same problem with my Walkera Dragonfly 37. Unfortunately I was in my house when it happened and it almost hit me. After the crash I never put it back together, bought a t-rex and a DX6, and didn't look back.

Commander Bob,
As I said, I like the carbon frame better.
I wonder what the difference is between the 450s and the 450SE. They sound about the same.

RE: Official T-rex 450 XL SE Thread
hi all
i think i need to upgrade my gyro now and get a better tail servo
what do you think 401 futaba and what survo? will the new servo be bigger and need to be fittted on the tail? at the moment its up the front, the only thing walkera 39 left on my heli is main motor, chasi, main shaft, tail boom tail blades and conopy, LOL
since i put the align 35a esc on, i think its just coincidence but my non heading hold gws gyro is not doing it, i have my radio (dx6) set up to mix the tail, but ive had to turn that right up to max and stall the tail kicks around and cant be trimed very good, its just a show
thanks for any help

your right on the 401 gyro, and combined with the futaba 9650 servo your tail will not move unless you tell it to. It will be a bit of an adjustment for forward flight unless you set up a mode for rate gyro. In heading lock (or whatever futaba calls it) the tail will not weathervane and you will have to use rudder input to get forward flight to work properly. It is a ton better and the forward flight thing is a non issue after the first couple of flights once you realize it. I had a GY190 on a helimaxx 400pro a year ago, combine a 2nd rate heli with a rate gyro (and me Learning heli)=lots of crashes.LOL. Sold that heli before I learned anything more than tail in hover.

RE: Official T-rex 450 XL SE Thread
I know a guy that has one on a TREX SE clone. He said it works good, but he never had a GY401 with S9650. A lot of his posts in the beginning were that it was not that solid and he did not know why everyone liked the TREX so much. He also used cheap cyclic servo's.
When you hear about Gy401 owners switching over that would be when you should get one. Doubtfull we'll switch since ours work perfect with the S9650 digital gyro.

I have a deal pending on a JR G500T Tail Lock Ring Gyro, would this be a good choice for my TREX 450SE?

I planning to use the G500T Tail Lock Ring Gyro with one of the Hitec HS65MG for the tail, is this a good combo? I'm getting them both brand new for under $150!

RE: Official T-rex 450 XL SE Thread
The price is good, I hope it performs as well.
It makes me nerveous that that gyro case looks just like the gyro shipped with the new walkera 60B. I have a Walkera 60, and a little earlier model of the current gyro. It actually works pretty good, but it is no Gy401 with a digital servo.
I think I see the Gy 401 for as low as $119.00 and I forget the servo price. But I think for 160 or 170 you could have the Gy401 and s9650 digital servo that is a proven combination.
Flying without a solid tail will take a lot of the fun out of flying.

You get what you pay for. If it was good then more people would be using it. The gyro of choice is the Futaba 401 with 9650 digital servo. That is what I have and mine flies rock solid, I can not comment on the JR but if you read this entire thread, very few if any are using the JR servo. Why?

I guess I'm jumping in late on this thread. I just ordered my 450 SE with the 401/9650 and 3 HS 65's. Should be a great little heli!

That is what I have, been flying for a month now. Working on my nose in, I can keep it pretty steady. The 450 SE is a great heli, set it up gentle to start with your curves until you get used to it. Then you can go wild!

I bought my GY401 and S9650 for $195 minus a $30 Instant Savings for a total of $165. I got them from Tower Hobbies. You have to watch for their sales.

That's a really good deal. Yeah, Tower can be a bargain if you catch them at the right time. I got all my stuff as a combo from Heliproz. I'll use my 9C for a tx. Should be here tomorrow. Can't wait!

RE: Official T-rex 450 XL SE Thread
You're getting the same setup I have. The 3 HS65's were a big improvement over my old HS-55's. My gyro and tail servo are too new for me to give a good rating, but with all the positive things people have to say about that combination, I'm not worried. I just got them installed this weekend. I had been running my old walkera gyro and a crummy servo out of the DX6 box.
Right now it's 22'F outside so there is not much flying going on, but I'll be ready when spring hits.
I've been trying to fly the sim a bit more but I've only got FMS (although they have a good T-Rex model). I may be getting an old copy of G2 tomorrow but we'll see.

RE: Official T-rex 450 XL SE Thread
I also have the HS65 servos for the collective/cyclic and 401/9650 combo for tail. Just what was on it when I got it. The guy I got it from was a bit of a freak for good equipment and bling. I knew he had it up to 3200 rpm tacked headspeed and gave it a good workout. The stress he put on things when flying would literally destroy anything but the best equipment. I have watched him fly.
Now that I have had a few flights on it I would not use anything else for servos and Gyro. I have a new SA in the box as a spare. You know it isn't "if" it is "when" LOL. I plan on doing exact same setup on it because it works.

RE: Official T-rex 450 XL SE Thread
There are only a couple tricks to the Gy401. first and foremost --- try to get it setup so that you use no trim by fine tuning the mechanical setup.
Second if your on a carbon plate or the carbon frame you may need to put a steel plate between two pieces of two sided tape (normally not a problem and not needed, they ship the plate with the gyro.).
Or if you get a little drift over time, you may need new foam or two pieces of foam tape. If you use two pieces of foam tape you will not need as much gain.
Mine is still rock solid and it is in my carbon frame.

I also got another 401 from them awhile back for my Raptor Titan 50. They are good folks to work with. You are so right about getting the setup/linkages perfect. I think that applies all through the heli, too. I spent all day Sunday doing just that with the Titan. Still a ways to go, but its coming out right. Gosh, I'm excited for this Trex to get here!
