HS 55 servo...

I was going to use them on the cyclic. I am using the eflite servos from my blades right now, but getting low on them. I found the HS 55 for 10 bucks a pop.

I have a 450 V2 and am using the HS65MG's on all but the tail they run about 30 bucks each but really are worth it. Do not skimp on servos it will cost you in the long run. Mike

Well, I had 8 Eflite RS 75 servos. So, I have been flying with them without any issues.....excepting stripping them if they get moved too fast by hand
Anywho, I was down to two left, and was at the hobby shop, picking up a new 430l motor, my old one smoked for some reason, and I noticed these for 10 bucks a piece. So, I got 1 of them and going to put them it in today I think. Dont ask why I didnt get 3
I did however get my new motor, and a CF tail boom, and some new flybars.
I think its worth replacing them all at 30 bucks, has to have a better center, and less play than the eflites.

Well, not a matter of $$ as much as a matter of making sense. I foresee having to replace probally one more set of servos as I progress in my abilities to fly more aggressive.

Yes, I use alot of HS55, good deal for the price. But the HS65mg are even that much better.
If your just learning, then HS55 will be fine. And yes, you probably will break a couple along the way. Fortunately, most breaks occur in the gear sets, which you can get spares for. 1/2 the price of the original servo (like 5 bucks), but better than replacing the whole thing.
Yes, better to have a matching set (3) on the cyclic.

Matched set?? LOL, mine are mixed and matched, futaba and eflite, now the hightech.
When I get the rest of them, its the first time in a long time it will be a matched set...LOL

Good servos will not need to be replaced "in a crash". In the long run you'll save money by doing it right in the first place. Helicopters are a different breed and the better the equipment the less pain and heartache down the road. Quality is much better than quantity when it come to servos.( I know this from experience) Good Luck. Mike

In most crashes no. But the way i crash, maybe i'm lucky, ive busted up 2. 1 i could fix with replacement gears the other, nope, totally seized up.

The HS55 and the Eflite s75 aren't very good servos for cyclic. Get some of the Hitec HS-65 either MG or HB or get the JS DS285. Yes these options cost more but the gear train won't break in a minor crash and they will actually center. The replacement gears for the 65hb are only $7 if you do break them. Flying will actually be easier for you because the heli will hold a trim setting and give you consistent flights.

It only makes sense to use quality servos on the cyclic. The S75 and the HS55 servos are not up to the task. Poor centering, and poor crash survivability.
If you are looking to purchase wisely, get the HS65 servos.
This is not a matter of bling. This is a matter of flight performance in a critical area. Look at all of the tricked out linkages between the servo and the blades. A lot of bearings. A lot of ball links. A lot of high end engineering. All to make the cyclic control system as slop free as possible.
Don't throw away all of that by using a sloppy servo.
Get the HS65. Going with anything less is wasting money and asking for poor cyclic control.

It doesn't have to be HS65MG's the HS65HB's also work real sweet. Someone even said they prefer them. Either or, you are doing yourself a big favor getting them

HS55 Speed: 0.14 sec. @ 60 deg, Torque: 1.3 KgCm, weight: 8 gm, cost $13
HS65MG Speed: 0.11 sec. @c 60 deg, Torque: 2.2 KgCm, weight: 11.96 gms. Cost: $35.
The 55's will work ok. I flew with them as a student but have swapped out to HS65MG. The 55's are perfect for airplanes. Considering the cost difference for (3) servos ($66) it's probably worth it. However, Don't be afraid to fly with 55's.
