Default WHICH T-REX TO GET ?

ok, ok. YOU WIN. i've spent the last 2 weeks looking and reading and comparing 450 size helis to replace my walkera df60[:@]
copterx, blackhawk450, vulcan450, hdx450, etc. etc. they all look real nice and they all say - trex compatible or good as a trex, or uses trex parts, yada, yada, yada and then when i read each separate thread for guys that have those, they say , ya, i like it but
i had to put a ALIGN motor on it, or i put a t-rex head on it, or make sure you get the align mainshafts cause they're stronger, etc..[X(]

so now i'm thinking, why fight it ? just get a t-rex i'm not rich, which is why i was looking at those other ones, but if i do this in stages, i can eventully get all the pieces together.

so my question is, which one. i was thinking plastic head and tail just for low cost of repair parts, cause i'm still learning
i do have a rf 3.5 sim but haven't hovered cleanly yet.[&o] i've also got some hitec servos, 55's and 65hb's.

thank you for any replies.

Nix the 55's. Use HS65 servos and the heli will behave better.

I do like the SE V2. Brother #1 and Brother #2 both have them and the step up in clean behavior was great. But I do understand economic limits. I have and old, pre-XL, 450X that has been upgraded as I crashed.
Pretty much any current T-Rex model will have the right pieces.

For the budget conscious pilot with some heli experience, definitely get the 450S. $229 at www.hobbypeople.net. Includes motor and esc. They fly just as well the higher dollar 450 models. If you break a plastic part, you can replace it with metal. Check replacement parts prices at www.epyaya.com. [sm=shades_smile.gif]

I am over the moon with my Trex. I was in the exact same boat when i decided to get mine. Which one, clone or not, plastic or metal. Was driving me nuts. Then i decided BOLLOCKS I'm in this hobby for a long time, i at that time do mild 3D I'm going to get all the bells and whistle. I shopped around and for $1000 i got: DX7 w AR6100, GY410, S9650, HS65HB batteries, charger, spares and not to mention the carbon v2. Was way more the the $600 i started off budgeting for but i do love it.

I am a newbie as well, I have a combination of align and copter x, I would say 60% align parts, 40% copter x parts, I bought it like that on ebay, a good deal, brand new, anyway, I am very happy with it, copter x parts are very good quality parts and If you decide to get a T-REX, get the SE, if you are a beginner the plastic version will cost you more in the long way, with the SE, after a crash I just replace the main shaft, shafering shaft and blades, with a plastic version, you would have to replace way more parts, of course, cheap, but after a few crashes the metal parts will be paid off!, also, buying the metal upgrades for the plastic version will cost you more than buying the metal kit at the beginning. Just my opinion, I had to make the same decision than you. I think most of the people go for the metal version (SE) for the same reasons, better to save a bit more of money to get the right thing.

thanks for all the replies guys. it takes a while to realize, why am i messin around trying to save a couple bucks only to end up
thinking-- i shoulda got a t-rex.[]. anouther hobby of mine is woodworking and construction, and i learned a long time ago with
power tools, get the good stuff the first time. it pays off in the long run. same thing with this hobby.

so why did i buy a walkera ?[:'(] well, i don't always take my own advise now i know better.
at least i have it to dink around with while i gather up all the add-ons, tx, rx, gyro, lipos, etc.. i need more sim time anyway.

Man, I was going to get a walkera for the price, but I read so many forums about its performance that I decided to wait 2 months!!!! to fly helis just to save some bucks more and get the right thing, I don't regret. T-rex is awesome, "solid as a rock" and a really cool design. Then I thought about getting a plastic version and then upgrading while I crash, but then I decided to wait longer and save more money until I could get the SE, as I wrote above, I don't regret, crashing doesn't cost much and I have crashed 14 times aproximately, I don't think you will be as bad as I am, I mastered the crash thing, hehe. Now I am way more better and my last crash was 20 flights ago (before that my record was 10 flights, ) You will love it, you gotta sacrifice some things in order to get a good thing, right????? Something very important are the electronics just as HELIACTION said, get HS65, GY401. For the batteries, I'll give you a tip but you don't have to follow it, some guys in this forum probably wouldn't.

For batteries and charger, I went to www.unitedhobbies.com and I got cheap Lipos (not famous brandname) for about 30dlls. and a good charger for 30dlls. Shipping is pretty cheap. I have had maybe 50 flights and no problem with the batteries, I guess they are not as good as the EVOS or any other brand, but if you are just starting, they will work just fine, I have 3 cheap batt packs (you will never have enough lipos, don.t worry about that) and I am satisfied with them, when I get at the point of flying inverted or 3d, then I won.t trust them, I'll buy a good recommended brand, but for now, they work just fine for me, and I paid for 1 batt and 1 charger what a normal lipo costs (or less).
