Hey everyone,
I'm pretty new to the whole RC thing but i'm pretty familiar with airplanes as both my uncle and grandfather have been flying for over 20 years. I was looking into getting one of the small heli's. They just seem so cool and a lot of fun. I also seems like a good heli for me to learn on. The question i have is: How much will one of these cost to have completley up and flying minus the radio because i already have one. Sorry if this is a "noob" question but since i'm not at all familiar with heli's, i dont even know where to begin. Thank you for your help and time.

The price will depend on which model you go with a SA, SE, or SE V2. I built my V2 last July and bought all of my parts from my LHS this is how mine broke down. My initial startup cost was around $1250 with a radio and tools without a charger/balancer and spare parts. Don't forget to budget in $$$ for the spare parts that you WILL quickly need.
T-Rex 450 SE V2 Black Carbon Fiber with Carbon Blades $429 + tax
Spektrum DX7/AR6100 $300 + tax (You have a radio but will need another receiver)
Hitech HS-65MG servos $35 X3 $105 + tax
Futaba Gy401 Gyro $125 + tax
Futaba S9650 Digital Tail Servo $50 + Tax
Flight Power Evo25 3S 2170mah Lipos $70 each. I get 6 minutes of fligt time per flight. I have 4 of these and 1 Thunder Power 3S 2070
You will also need some misc. tools like a pitch guage, ball link pliers, and a set of digital calipers to setup the heli properly.
I would also suggest a good sim if you don't already have one. A good sim will save you a ton of money when learing how to fly your first heli.
You can get into a SE setup for about $60 less than the SE V2 and a SA (all plastic head and tail) setup for around $200 less.
Good luck and have fun.

depending on how extravagant you are with your setup it could go between 400 and 800 bucks outside. With helicopters it realy is best to ...uh how can i say this gracefuly... leave yourself some margin for error in the "denerro" zone.

Hi Fastball,
A Trex 450S kit costs $220, a semi good gyro will at least be $80, 3 swash servos for around $75 and a tail servo for $45. If you've got your radio, and a couple batteries for $100, so that's around $520 + shipping. DO NOT settle for a $169 complete RTF from Hong Kong! They don't last long enough to get through totally learning how to fly without dumping lots of $ into them and they're harder to fly. This was my experience. I love my 450 and fly it daily (weather permitting). Just my .02. Dave

I agree that the trex450 is a great heli but don't knock some of the cheaper RTF kits from Hong Kong, the esky line of heli's especially have been getting very good reviews. I have 3 esky (1 king2 and 2 belt cp), 2 trex 450 (SE and XL) and an HDX450V3 as well as a Trex 600N Pro.
Of course the larger and more expensive heli's fly better and more stable but the esky heli's are fun to fly as well.

I just picked up my T-Rex 450 SA ARF today for $210. Im guessing Ill have about $550-600 into mine before its ready to fly. Just depends mostly on what radio/servos and gyro you buy.
