Default Saito .62a

This is a very smooth, very quick engine. Acceleration off of idle is instantaneous with no stumbling and no smoke.

Saito .62a
Plug===Saito SS
Fuel=== PowerMaster 15% nitro/18%/80/20 blend
Prop===Bolly 13.5x6
Peak rpm==9,330
Two clicks rich=9,150
Idle==1,800 rpm

The idle/midrange mixture is approx. 1/2 turn lean from its position in the picture.

Looks like the carb came with a velocity stack. Any difference with it on or off ?

I've been looking at a new Saito 56/62 or 72
The 62A is cheaper than the 56A

Can anyone enlighten me with the difference, besides it's bigger?
And why it's cheaper?

If you can get the .62 cheaper than go for it. It is a great little engine.

Hobbsy,
Do you have a MA 14x6 K prop you could put on that?
My 65 and 4*40 do great with that prop. Nice low idle, real good thrust, fair speed. I fly mine at ~ 9100 rpm, not sure what peak is.
The only thing that would be better would be losing a few ounces of engine weight.
Thanks

W, I'm sure I do, I'll give it a shot tomorrow if I can squeeze it in.

W, I must apologise, I had a senior moment yesterday and ran a K 13x6 which it turned 9,675 at peak. I'll look for 14x6 in a bit.

Thanks Hobbsy, This 65 seems to like being loaded to the low 9000's. I've tried the APC 13x6- good, APC 13x7- better,
MA 14x6 K- best. For my style of flying in the 4*40 anyhow.

W, I hope these nuimbers aren't disappointing, I ran the .62 with the MA 14x6 K
Fuel====WildCat 15%/18% all synthetic
Fox Miracle Plug
Stock exhaust
RPM=======8,100, how does that compare to the .65? This combination is eerily smooth with sub 1,800 rpm idle, acceleration in the 5,000 to 7,500 rpm range is almost instantaneous even though I was disappointed in the max rpm. The .62s forte seems to be very good midrange torque. Also, it will run a really long time on a 16oz tank.

Thanks for the info,
The 65 is flying that prop at ~ 9100 rpm. Not sure what peak is, I check next time out.
I may be wrong, but I am thinking the 62 likes a smaller prop at higher rpm where as the 65 like's a larger prop at lower rpm.
Any how that 62 sounds great for an every day sport plane. One of the guys at the field had one in a FokkerDVII. I think Uravitch drew up the plans. It really pulled that bipe around and sounded good doing it.
thanks again

You might try a different 14-6. I have a MAS 14-6 that pulls hard
