RE: OS FS-200
Flyer95,
My aircraft is a 25% Yak that I mostly fly as Sport Aerobatics. Not much into 3D although I play around a little.
What my post is really asking is if 8000 rpms on 18x6W is correct? I feel like this motor should have greater potential for it's size. Saito 180's will typically turn this prop at a higher RPM so I am really questioning if my set up (including my tuning) is about normal for the 200 and that I should not expect anymore rpms. Maybe I have done everything correctly and that is how this engine performs. If so, OK, just want to make sure I am getting max. performance for my $$$.
Thanks,
Ken

RE: OS FS-200
Ken, I know some of the OS guys are not going to like this but since the first OS 200 review showed up on another network it has shown to be a about 300 rpm weaker than the Saito 1.80, by comparison my Saito 2.20 runs a just Engines 20x6 at 9,150 on 15% WildCat

RE: OS FS-200
Ken Cz,
What i found out about this engine is that this engine is a torquer and not a revver. 8000rpm is probably the max rpm this engine will turn comfortably and yes mine is also turning 7900-8100rpm on this same APC18x6w prop. Have read some others have done 8300 but dont remember the nitro %? If you are not into 3D then go for a heavier load like 18x8w or 18x10 prop and use the torque this engine have to give. You will then have better allround performance and be able to make larger loops, nicer rolls and have more top speed.

Hobbsy and Flyer 95-
Thanks for the valuable feedback. At least I know now what I am dealing with and can go from there. Think I will try the 18x8 and see how it performs.
Hobbsy - what is the 'just engines prop' you mention? Good item? Website?
Best -

I posted the below info on another thread then noticed it was a very old one that may not get much response. So here it is again - Thanks for the feedback in advance.
Hi Guys-
I am running the OS 200 mounted about 45 deg. up from inverted and using a Perry VP-30 pump - stock muffler.
Fuel is Powermaster 15%nitro-20% Syn. Oil.
About 2 gallons of fuel max. run through it.
New OS F plug.
Cowl is shrouded to direct air over cylinder with at least 2x exit opening.
Tank is about 6in aft of carb.
For a prop I am using a APC 18-6W.
Question: I am getting is 8000 rpms tops. Does this sound right? Just seems like it is not developing full power. I did not document it but swear I was getting closer to 9000 rpms when engine was newer.
I have spent a lot of time adjusting mixture and cannot lean it out any further. Even had some of the top glow guys at the field go over my set up and tuning and found no problems.
Any suggestions on what I can try/look at to get more power?
Perhaps adjust the perry pump? If so, which way - more fuel or less?
Any help appreciated.
Ken

RE: OS FS-200
yes OFC the os ax120 pull more rpm... hehe it also smaller and its a 2-stroke.. but 2stroke engine dont have power in low rpm... it got bad throttle respons and sound...
The Os fs200 dont need so much RPM.. 7-8000 rpm is fine, its a big 4-stroke engine... why you need so much RPM and small prop size for this engine??
my OS fs200s ran a 19x8 and 18x10 over 7000 rpm... i dont need more rpm for my 25% acrobatic plane..

Ken, I must apologise, I don't check this forum very often. The Jen-C props are re-badged Biela's. WHen you tighten down a Jen-C it like tightening down a piece of steel, they have a hardwood core that must be real hard. Have not had to balance one yet.

RE: OS FS-200
Hobbsy,
No problem - I did manage to locate info on the props.
Note: I was flying my OS 200 yesterday with a APC 18x6 Wide and running the Perry vibration pump - I tached it with 2 different tachs at 8250 rpm and still a bit rich - lots of smoke using Powermaster 15% Nitro/20% All Syn. oil.

The initial posts in the thread said the engine could spin a 18X8w at 8700rpm, now everyone posts 1000 rpm less. What gives?

RE: OS FS-200
hello,
i have an os 200 with pump, it is a nice engine but not a power house...my fuel is cool power 10 % nitro and my idle is too high so i just buy an idle glow, i think it would be better..

RE: OS FS-200
Hi guys,if you want an in-cowl exhaust check out RC Specialties, they do a cool looking pipe with an adapter for the OS200,they call it a turbo header and its suppose to increase the RPM at the top end, just ordered one for my FW190

RE: OS FS-200
Just tested my Top Flite P-51 today with the OS200FS. Temps were in the high 40's. (great considering it's winter time)
15.5x12 4 blade apc= 7,200 10% omega
16x12 2 blade apc= 8,200 10% omega.
I like the performance of the engine for my plane because I could turn a 4 blade prop in the 15.5" range.

RE: OS FS-200
Ton2dI,
How much does your P-51 weigh?
What were the flying characteristics with the 4 blade vs the 2 blade?
One seem to have more power for take off and climb out and the other more speed?
Which one did you like best overall?
I just moved my OS200 onto a Clipped Wing Monocoupe that goes 12lbs + with a 18x6 prop but have not flown it yet.
I previously had the motor and prop combo on a 73" Yak and it flew very well although the Yak was more in the 10-11lb range.
Had great power but certainly not fast with the 6 pitch prop.

RE: OS FS-200
Ken,
The P-51 weighs +/- 10 1/2 lbs. depending on the prop used. THe 16x12 is a little bit faster, but the 4 blade is not far behind (maybe because the prop unloads more in the air even if it only turns around 7200 on the ground.) After break-in , it would try a 17x12 apc so they both would be in the 7,200-7400 range. I think the engine likes this rpm range. I like the way it handles with the 4 blade, better turns and much more control on landings. For this type of airframe, I take off at around half throttle so there's a lot of thrust with these props.
Attached here is a pic taken today at the field.
Updated photo of the 4 blade with the stock spinner modified for 4 blade. This is what I use to fly the plane.

hello. i have ys dz 170,s and with an apc 18x10 it turns 9200 20x8 8500 and 20x10 apc 6800 rpm. and you could pick them up used cheap. new ys 175 and the 185 is in the making mean the 170 is obsoleate.
