buy a new one!!! i am personally not a fan of the stock muffler, get something else that is quieter and will not split in two (the reason it seems they get so dirty is the gaskets leak, so you could try replace them). my zimmerman is awesome.

A while back there was a post on how to clean mufflers. I can't seem to find them on this forum. Why by a new muffler if the other one is as new but dirty - it is still in great condition only dirty.

because i am a sucker for new things!!!

seriously though, IMO, the stock muffler works, but the zimmerman is just so much more stable with fuel and revs, and much quieter.

lekker bly.

look in the airplane engine section for the antifreeze in the crockpot post,
its supposed to get all of the old gunk clean.

Mornin,

I have not yet successfully been able to clean an exaust. I have however found that since I stopped using Caster in my fuel that the castor that was remaining on the pipe simply wipes of a bit at a time after each flying session. Caster got burnt all over the pipe, but with no Castor in my fuel, my pipe is getting cleaner everytime I fly..

Regards
Solo.

I use a chrome polish called Blue Magic. I works well at removing the gunk form the muffler. It can be found at most walmarts etc.

Just use a bit of elbow grease and a pot cleaner. That works for me!!!
Emosolo is 100% correct with the castor oil thing. If you use a total synthetic oil you muffler will stay completly clean every time. Castor always leaves a horrible brown staining all over the muffler. Its a hard one because castor oil (I have read) has better cooling properties than a fully synthetic oil, but cleaning mufflers is a pain in the *****.
