Upgrade from 30V2 to 50V2 Gear Ratio's
Mornin...
I have begun the process of upgrading my Raptor. I have decided that I will use the longer tail version as per the instructions which I have attached to this post.
The question is, at the bottom of the instructions they talk about the Gear Ratio's and recommend that you keep the 30's gear ratio, but that you can try the new ratio if you wish...
I am interested to know what gear ratio will do what with my New TT50 engine and which ratio is preferred...
Regards
Solo

RE: Upgrade from 30V2 to 50V2 Gear Ratio's
Mornin All,
I see that no one was able to help me on this one...
I found out that you should keep the original gear ratio if you are upgrading to the longer blades and boom and if you are doing the upgrade where you keep the 550 Blades and short boom you need to change the Ratio from the orignal to the 10 Tooth pinion and 85 Tooth main gear.
Regards
Solo.

RE: Upgrade from 30V2 to 50V2 Gear Ratio's
Well I bought the TT 50 upgrade kit because I got hold of a v1 30 for next to nothing & had a complete spare v2 head (after blinging my v2 30) so building up a 50 v2 from parts. The new gears were included so I just used them. TBH I didnt bother reading the instructions and just did it.
Im going for the long boom version.
Maybe i fooked up....

Morning,
lol, I never really read the instructions, I just kind of browse them to see if something off that catches my eye... I think the gear ratio's help to make sure that the engine is running at optimum torque at the correct Revs... With the 550 blades and the 50 engine, I have read articles of over speeding, so to resolve that you put in the gear and pinion provided in the upgrade kit...

RE: Upgrade from 30V2 to 50V2 Gear Ratio's
solo, i use the 50 gearing on my raptor 50 and it has bags of power, i have never tried the 30 gearing with the os 50 but have heard it can make them very tricky to set up right, and for my money the 50 engines running 15 - 30% nitro on the 8.5 gearing is so good anyway there's no reason to mess with it, so i'd go with the 85t main gear and 10t pinion.

I have the older Raptor from 6 years ago. I just picked up the TT 50 engine. Can I just throw it in without upgrading the heli with the Raptor 50 upgrade kit. Also what parts are the same for the Raptor 30 and the Raptor 50 so I know what to use up and not buy more of when I upgrade to the Raptor 50.

RE: Upgrade from 30V2 to 50V2 Gear Ratio's
When I came to fitting the OS50 max into my v1/v2 50 the holes on the engine mount dont line up with the frame, they are about 2 - 3 mm out of line.
Any ideas?
I havnt tried moving the top coller on the starter shaft yet but I cant see it making a diffrence. The clutch all seems to line up correctly (using the v1 30 clutch & bell) its just the mounting holes done line up.[&o]
That was using the v1 30 fan, if I used the new 50 fan its much worse as there seems to be an additional coller on the fan thats 1.5 - 2 cm taller. Puttiong the fans next to each other they look the same apart from this coller

RE: Upgrade from 30V2 to 50V2 Gear Ratio's
Haven't tried the 30 gearing (9.5), Most everyone here uses the 8.5 gears. The larger 2 stroke engines tend to have a peak torque at lower RPM. In my airplane days it was not uncommon for me to get a piped 28 running in the 15000 RPM range, but it is rare to see a 90 running more than 9000. so it makes sense to me to lower the gear ration for the larger engine. Most of us run the head speed of the 50 around 1900 - 2000 RPM, if you are running 9.5's the engine may have to scream out @ 19,000 if you use 8.5 2000 RPM head spead translates to a more modest 17,000 (still very high). That heli gobbles up a lot of sky at those headspeeds! no doubt you will love the 50.

RE: Upgrade from 30V2 to 50V2 Gear Ratio's
So to upgrade without the upgrade kit I need the Gear and pinion and the larger fan for the 50. How does this compare to just getting the whole upgrade kit for $89 and getting the longer boom, blt and 600mm blades.
