Default Dope and Fabric Finish

I am getting ready to finish my Spacewalker with Koverall and nitrate dope. To fill the weave, will baby powder work?
Thanks,
Bruce

Yes, I have used baby powder to fill many times and it is fine. Some people claim you can smell the scented stuff but I have never found that to be true, nor does it really make sense that it would smell when embedded in the dope finish.

Are you trying to simulate metal panels around the cockpit? For that the baby powder works, but you don't need anything other than dope and thinner for the fabric covered sections.

I am trying to replicate the appearance on a full scale SW at a local airport. Most of the weave has been filled on the fabric portions. I have replicated the metal portions with fiberglass - see the photo. So I was planning to use the baby powder to fill most of the weave and keep the weight and number of coats down. What do you think?
Thanks,
Bruce

On my Spacewalker, I used Solartex. The weave was filled, in the same area as you have in primer, with epoxy finishing resin.

By spraying 3 color coats, using no primer, I found the weave to be nearly filled. In areas where the trim color was added, (3 more coats) the weave was completely filled.

You may find that Solartex will be an easer solution to your problem

Wow, that's a great looking Spacewalker. I like the cream and red, and the unpainted fabric in the garage pic.

I think your dog likes the Spacewalker, too! Very classic color scheme!

Talle (the Basset) is my constant building companion. She's in the shop almost every day, helping me in any way she can.
