What is the thickness of a sheet rock panel;

Ceiling sheet rock is generally 5/8 inch but sometimes 1/2 inch if when ceiling joist are of narrow centering.

I use PVC, very cheap and easy to work with. The PVC rack holds seven planes, I will be building a second rack to hold two more planes, a heliocopter and two quadrocopters.

For sheet rock ceilings you can use a product referred to as an E-Z anchor, and are available from Walmart or Lowe's. All you need to do is substitute a screw eye or cup hook in place of the screw. These drywall anchors have a pretty high pullout strength in sheet rock. I have several aircraft suspended fro my ceiling using these from a 40 size to a 50cc.

Anchoring into the ceiling joist above the sheet rock will provide stronger support as the wood is a much stronger medium than the gypsum. To locate where the ceiling joist are, one may use a stud finder. The simple ones use a magnet mounted to swivel and work by showing when they are attracted to one of the hidden under the finished surface fasteners used to hang or install the sheet rock. Others are electronic and work by sensing density changes. Another simple method that works quite well is to wrap the back of the knuckles on the sheet rock to sense sound changes as the hand advances. It however requires having previous awareness of the joist directions. Once a sound change is detected indicating a near location of the joist, then a small finish nail can be used to identify exactly where the joist is. Once located, a screw fastener, be it a hook, eye or screw to hold a mount can be used.

I don't have a lot of space for plane storage put I like building. My shop is made up of two rooms, wood shop and clean room. There's the dust in the wood shop and my clean room is 12'x12' but that's where they need to be. I made a roller cart from a bunch of junk I was going to trash. I had an old TV cart and some aluminum angle. I purchased some shelving brackets from Home Depot.
It holds most of my planes and they're all on trickle charge. I can roll it out of the way if I need to.
I also have a wing rack mounted to the wall over my clean room bench.
My cellar height is only 7'6" so I only hang my smaller electrics.

The bottom is a Carl Goldberg anniversery Cub that I rescued and rebuilt from my club trash.

The 3rd up is a Sig Kadet LT40 ARF that I converted to a taildragger, added wing struts, wheel pants, and a cowl.
This was the second LT I converted. The 1st ( that I have a picture of) flew great, as does the new LT. The 1st decided to fly away
on it's own. I chased it until I ran out of road. I blame it on an inferior/cheap switch that I purchased. All the last radio inputs had froze as if someone
turned the power to the receiver off.

I really like the cub, nice restore and thats a great plane anyway. Leroy

It looks like the scheme is becoming popular. Hobbyking just came out with a Cub with the same numbers and nose art.
