Hinges

Having a bit of a problem installing Sonic-Tronics Phoenix spring loaded hinges.on my Top Flite P-39 Aircobra nose gear doors. Can't seem to get the geometry quite right. They don't open the full travel. I do not want to sand away too much of the doors or fuselage. Anybody got any ideas?
