Default super cheap plane stand

Are you looking for a cheap stand to put your planes on to while working. Styrofoam ice chests make great super cheap airplane stands. Use the base and then just cut out the shape of the fuselage. They don't damage the plane and are great for working with while the plane is upside down. I like them because if I need to push down on the plane in order to install a servo, etc. the styrofoam absorbs a lot of the weight. Maybe this is an old shop trick but for me as a new builder this has been a huge help.

That's a good idea. I just broke one on purpose and now I wished I hadn't. [>:]

This is a good tip! In addition to this you can cut one pair of sides to suit the shape of the fuse right way up, then perpendicular to that on the other 2 sides you can cut it to match your fuse while upside down.

Thats a good idea smchale. But I just cut it out to fit the biggest plane that I have and the others just rest partially on the wings.

This is what I do. I also use the same box when I transport my smaller planes to the flying field, as the box also makes for an excellent storage for the parts and tools that are specific to that plane.

Good tip Gringo Volador

No No don't drink it first,, that's the beauty or the ice chest idea. It allows you to work on your plane and never be far from your beer.

You install a clevis/ reach in and grab
install a prop/ reach in and grab
install a servo/ go to the bathroom, come back, reach in and grab.

I found another advantage to the foam ice chest. If you are installing a servo, canopy, anything with screws. You can stick the screws into the foam while you are putting in the other ones. That way you dont have to worry about them rolling off the table and disapearing into the carpet!
