What is the best way to clean out canopy glue?

Azhar, I don't know about cleanup,but I'm fixing to install my canopy on my Contender. Not much place to screw it on, so I was wondering if there is some kind of
silicone glue that I could use to run a bead on it and then set it in place.

With what and how did you attach yours?

Canopy glue, the hobby store should knw what you are talking about, works great. It dries like silicone and is clear. I just goofed a little on my canopy alignment so need to clean off and reset it.

A Q-tip and starting fluid (ether). Other solvents may work. Try a small spot to make sure your canopy isn't made of some cheap plastic that will fog with ether.

Don't worry about smearing canopy glue. It's impossible to mess the job up. Have a damp paper towel ready. Make sure you run a bead of glue that is slightly too much glue. You want it to squeeze out. When it does, wipe it off with the damp towel. Tape the canopy in place and let the glue cure overnight.

It'll stay white looking for awhile, where it is thick. Don't worry about that either. It dries as clear as the canopy.

After you've got it taped, check after 10-15 minutes and wipe any more that might have squeezed out. The wet paper towel and the glue won't hurt anything. The glue wipes up great.

It's excellent stuff.

Hey, I like the stuff go much, I'd ship you a bottle if the LHS doesn't have any. I think it's the next best new product since I found hinge glue. (have I told y'all about hinge glue???? )

On second thought, if the LHS doesn't have any, you need to find a better LHS..... grin

Darock, can you give me a "brand name" of that stuff?

I can give you one - Pacer Formula 560 Canopy Glue. Looks and behaves just like white Elmers glue. Secures canopies like a rock.

The brand that I have used is called J&Z R/C 56 Glue. The stuff works very well, and dries clear and flexible, and cleans up quite easily.

I have a question of my own. Does anybody know if "Tacky Glue" is the same as canopy clue? It goes for about $0.80 vs $4.00 per 4oz container.

A sllightly different approach might be similar to how I recently intalled a wind screen on a Phaeton 90. First, a pattern was cut out leaving tabs to affix the screen rather than simply glue. Place pattern on model and mark tabs and then use pattern to cut wind screen. Use #11 blade to cut slots and then drag the blade backwards to open the slot slightly. Sand tabs to roughen and insert tabs into plane and either glue or pin from within. Straight pins can be used by heating and sliding along inside surface and sticking through the tab.
