I have spent the past two days sanding my awful
mistake. I had a good base of Rustoleum primer
and let it cure for a day and went on with Krylon
Latex. Major orange peel. Could someone pick
me up and head me toward success ?

Let it dry real good, lightly sand with 400 grit or finer. Then recoat a couple of coats, making sure your coats are even but not heavy, and let them flash good between coats.

If you have orange peel it usually means the paint was too dry or too thick when it hit the surface.
If using a spray gun the paint should be thinned some more.
If using a spray can then hold the can closer to the surface, but move it faster across the surface to prevent curtaining. It is a question of "Technique and practice"

Thanks guys . I suspected my technical ability wasn't up
to the task. I always hated spray cans and some folks
get really nice results. At the price of the paint it probably
wouldn't hurt to practice a bit before putting it on my latest
masterpiece.[
] I have got the thing sanded down to resin
and primer again and we will have another go at it.

I don`t mean to step in here, but what ever you do, do not wipe it down with laquer thinner, it will cause you to have a gummy mess.
ORIGINAL: TELEJOJO
Wipe it down with some laquer thinner before you spray it.
