what pin cones on a wholemade prop balancer?
Someone help me out here.
I have built a prop balancer with some magnets apiece of 4-40 rod between them and a variety of items to sandwich the prop but i am a little concerned that i am not getting the prop centered on the pin between the magnets.
The cones i have made are from cork, wire nuts, rubber stoppers but getting a hole drilled exactly in ;the center is hard to do .
Any reccomendations would be appreciated.

Home made prop balancer
I don't know if this helps you out or not, but what I did is I bought a $4.49 fingertip prop balancer and suspended it between two magnets.

If you need the cones, why not try the washer that you can get for taps; you may have to bush or enlarge the hole but they actually are very true as far as consistancy in shape goe and hard enough not to deform very easily.

I have the finger tip balancer and I took (2) 1/4 bolts about 6" long and set them in a 2x4. I then took a 3/16 drill bit and just drilled a pit hole on the edge of the bolt heads and set the finger tip balancer in between the bolt heads where I drilled the pit.
Works but a magnet might be nicer.

I would also like to ask....... Where did you get the magnets? I have similar balancer but the magnets are really to weak. If anyone out there knows of a source for strong small magnets, similar in size as in Tim's photo, please post or eamail me.
Thanks ..... lownslo

"THE MYSTERY MAGNETS"
The magnets came from an industrial supply co. probably (McMaster-Carr) not sure. There is nothing special about them, I only used them because that is what I had lying around available. It is probably not worth the bother, or the shipping, to order them when you can probably get other magnets strong enough to work at any large hardware or dept. store.
