How to make a 3D American Flag on your planes
#278
That Ultimate is sure to be a show stopper. What are you going to do the wings?
I gave the 3D flag a whirl on my Byron CAP 21. I spent about six hours on the first lay out, but didn't like it. I also had one hell of a time with the transparent blue monokote. I ended up getting some transparent blue vinyl instead. That went much better! Now I only need to decide what to do to the fuselage. I plan on having 'Old Glory' in flowing script on the fuse behind the wings, but the rest of the design has me scratching my head. I can't wait for our annual club open house. I can already picture that plane in the air, thick white smoke pouring out, with Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Red, White and Blue' playing in the background...or maybe Lee Greenwood's anthem...pure American bliss.
EDIT: Obviously the right wing needs some more red stripes.

I am going to do the top wing something like yours the bottom wing the strips will go the same direction as the fuselage. So the bottom wings and the fuselage will look like one flag. when I finish it it will be up for sale.

Gator, I dont know if this has been mentioned yet but if I remember correctly from my photography classes, black reflects a slight hint of blue. maybe for the black andf white flag use a smokey gray blue overlay for the shadows.
also this thread has tought me volumes. I will most likely try this with my first ever covering attempt (if the first coat goes down well lol)

Gator Man,
Great covering job, and it`s given me some ideas for the future. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Well i was bored this morning , the wind is blowing 35 mph here so couldnt fly today
. So i was browsing threw here on RCU and seen this thread. Got me to thinking ( uh oh ) about my hangar9 33% edge and i wanted it to be different from everyone else's. So i was waiting on parts for the plane so i deceided to make it different.
I have seen gators work at a pro bro flyin before and was very impressed to say the least. So with the inspiratin of this thread and the waving checker board i have tried to do a few things. Let me know what you guys think . Does it look right or did i miss a step ?
I was thinking about doing a tearaway all along the bottom of the plane where the white is. Anyway take a look at what i have done so far and if you can add any sugestions i would apreciate it.
Thanks for the thread termagator, It was very helpful , i just wish i could cover as good as you. By the way how are you guys cutting them letters out ?
