I just bought a plane that hasn’t seen daylight in years. The covering job is top notch however it has a few wrinkles to iron out and some edges have lifted.

My past experience is that once an edge comes up, ironing back down doesn’t seem to keep it in place very long.

Any tips for laying these back down... for good?

Note: My best guess is it’s MonoKote.

If the iron doesn't work, CA will. Give it a good cleaning with alcohol or some other solvent first.

CA is what I've done in the past, but I always seem to make a mess pressing the covering down and squeezing the CA out.

I've never used trim solvent before and wasn't sure if it would work in this situation?

If you could lift the edges and go around with a small brush and balsarite. Let it dry and iron it down again. Works good.

The product is called "Cover Grip" (http://www.deluxematerials.com) looks like white glue - spread some on, it goes really sticky and the heat of the iron sets it.

Clear finger nail polish works very well to hold down seams and loose edges.

I use a piece of the same covering that is cut so that it looks like a strip of tape. Wipe down both sides of the offending seam carefully with lacquer thinner and iron on this piece of "tape" taking great care to seal the edges of the "tape" or you will have trouble with the edges of the strip coming loose on you again.
