Default Pica 1/5 P-51d

Ok I have taken on a great task of finishing this PICA P-51. I took over this plane for my buddy to finish building that a former builder had started. The only thing is that he wanted just a plane shell not a flying one. So he followed the blue prints left out the following the step-by-step book that it comes with. So there are alot of wood parts left out. I have already had to cut off the tail section to just get the elevator right, but the wing is coming up and oh boy talk about alot of wood parts left out. So my question is, What do I need to really put in and what can I get away with. If you need more info please write would love a 2nd opinion on this.

Probably be a whole lot easier to buy a new wing kit from Pica.

The plane isn't a lightweight, so I'd go along with the idea of getting a new wing - and doing it right!

Hey Wesleybrack
Does this P-51 model have a scale wing? Is the wing straight across on the leading edge or does the wing have the real P-51 angles?

Looks like all the ribs are there -- how about the wing spar web plates ? Exactly what wood is missing or just not added yet ? Since none of the skin seems to be on the wings yet, can't you get to and add in the missing parts ?

Can you take some more photos with a top view of the wings ?

Randy,
This is a thread that's over 6 months old, and was resurrected. It's probably been finished and crashed by now.

Randy it is 6 mos old but I have been checking and I'm sorry for not responding sooner. I work for the state and have been in construction in the summer then went to plowing snow. This is the first weekend I have had in about 4 mos. I had to cut the tail off and started to rebuild a new elevator. Well after getting almost done I started looking at what all of you had said and I have all the wood to do the wing but one side of the wing is covered and I think it is a scale wing angle it has this big thick piece of ply wood that goes threw the center to give it, its angle. Well the whole story wrapped up is I'm going to sell it to someone (I hope) that knows about this plane so it will make a flight someday. I'll be putting on ebay so if interested look for it and again thanks for all of your help.

I HAD a pica 1/6th scale mustang and all I have to say is leave out all the wood you can and drill lots and lots of lightening holes. Hopefully the 1/5 isn't as bad.
