O.S. gemini-160 fuel
#1
Hi guys,
I have a O.S. , Gemini- 1.6 4 cycle twin and have had it for years. Its never been started.
Should I just run it on glow, I would think a good caster blend?
Put on board Glow driver in the plane and run it on caster?
Or put a elect. system with spark plugs and timed firing and the fuel that goes with it.
I have a plane I want to put it in for next year, and could use some help with this.
thanks

Sticks, I have the Magnum 160 twin which is an exact coppy of the os, Use straight caster fuel for the first 5-6 runs then you can use synthetic/caster oil, I use and on board glow regluated with the throtal. If you change over to spark ign you still have to run glow fuel.

I have several of the exact motor you have. Been running mine
with a 16/6 prop and Morgan 10 or 15% castor fuel for years.
Skip the electrical stuff............don't need it.
Great motors, very depenable once set up correctly.

Roby

Hi,
thanks
I am looking forward to running this motor, and feel better with some advice from you guys. I'll try and post when I get it up and running, on a plane. Might be next spring, but it will happen. I am leaning roward the on board glow for the low throtle settings as one side may flame out, that would have to be hard on the engine.

Currently using an O.S. 160 twin on a Fokker DR1. I use only Byron 'Sport-blend' glow fuel - 15% nitro, 18% syn./castor blend. If you can afford the additional expense of a glow ignitor system, buy one. It may save your model at a critical time. Benefits include a smoother, consistent idle, reduced idle RPM's and no external glow driver to attach upon starting.
The ignitor system I prefer is from Electro-Dynamics which operate off a 4.8v battery pack;own and operate three for many years without incident.

yes, I like the idea of the on board glow. The plane I plan to put it in is one that I am going to BRING back. I plan to run it with a 2c engine untill I figure out if the plane will fly. Then I plan to put the OS 160 in it.
Whats a good on board glow system for this motor????

Yes, I will be looking for a good glow driver and I plan to use a good caster fuel with at least 18% oil. The 15 % nitro sounds good, what is the max on nitro for these engeins?
What prop are you useing?

Hi!
As ROBY said ! This engine is dependable and doesn't need any on-board glow.
Use a 16x6 APC or RAM prop and 5-10% nitro fuel. 15%nitro is just overkill!!!

Stick 40 - I have 3 of the Gemini Twin 160 and really enjoy them. Not the most powerfull for displacment but sound great. I have run 10% nitro fuels in them for years. I have about 4 gallons of Ducted Fan fuel left over and did a test run with it and picked up 500 rpm. The ducted fan fuel is 10% nitro and a blend of castor and syntheic oil, 20%.
On one engine I am running a Ken Anderson (916-821-2635) "On Board Glow" mainly because the engine is fully cowled. The glow runs all day on two 1.2 amp/hr nicads in parallel.

the extra 500 rpm's sounds good if not too expensive. I plan to run it next spring, just getting my ducks in a row right now. I have to finish the plane , to put it in.I started the plane about 15 years ago and plan to finish it this winter and install the OS 1.6 into it.
Its a Stenson Voyager and is the ideal plane for this engine. I was going to put it into a 120 size Zero I picked up , but the zero is not the easiest to fly and I am not putting that engine into a plane like that.
thanks, I'll put this in with all the info I get on it.
